Published - Monday, April 12, 2004 UW-L student missing A University of Wisconsin-La Crosse wrestler is missing. Jared P. Dion, 21, was last seen about 2:30 a.m. Saturday in the 100 block of Third Street North in downtown La Crosse, said Capt. Doug Groth of the La Crosse Police Department. The friend who last saw Dion was getting on the Safe Ride bus, which takes riders from the UW-L campus to downtown and back at no cost. The friend said Dion remained downtown and did not get on the bus at that time. Groth said Dion's mother filled out a missing person report Saturday night because she had been trying to make Easter arrangements but had been unable to reach her son. He was last seen wearing blue jeans and a brown long-sleeve T-shirt. Dion, a sophomore at UW-L, just completed his wrestling season with a 5-3 record, according to UW-L Web site statistics. In December 2003, Dion got some pivotal points for his team after toppling UW-Parkside senior All-American, Dan Dempsey, 5-2, according to a Tribune article. UW-L Coach Tim Fader said at the time Dion wrestled "a smart match, almost a perfect match." Dion's hometown is Pewaukee, Wis., according to the UW-L student directory. Anyone with information on Dion's whereabouts are asked to call La Crosse police at (608) 785-5962. Anastasia Mercer can be reached at (608) 791-8256 or smercer@lacrossetribune.com.
