Porter M. Wheeler
Porter M. Wheeler, 86, died in Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center on Thursday, Aug. 19, 2004. He was born Nov. 9, 1917, in La Crosse to Porter M. and Geneva (Jorgenson) Wheeler Sr. He married Marion (West) on Nov. 11, 1943. He served with the U.S. Army in World War II. Prior to his retirement, Porter worked as an instrument technician for the Autolite Corp. He was a member of the Onalaska Masonic Lodge 214 and the ZOR Shrine Temple.
He is survived by his wife, Marion; two daughters, Joyce (James) Wheeler-Christiansen of West Des Moines, Iowa, and Patricia Clifford of Woodbury, Minn.; two grandchildren, Anne and Eric Clifford; a sister, Edythe (Russell Sr.) Kroner of La Crosse; and numerous nieces and nephews.
His parents; a sister, Dorothy Sagen; and a brother, John T. Wheeler preceded him in death.
Memorial services will be Saturday, Aug. 21, at 11 a.m. in St. Luke's United Methodist Church, 1022 Caledonia St., La Crosse. The Rev. Dommik Israel will officiate. Friends may call at the church Saturday from 10:30 a.m. until the service.
Memorials may be given to St. Luke's United Methodist Church, the American Cancer Society or the Shriner's Hospital for Crippled Children.

Pastor Forrest J. "Fory" Clark
ASTORIA, Ore. — Pastor Forrest J. "Fory" Clark, 80, of Astoria, Ore., passed away Jan. 20, 2004. Survivors include his wife, Solveig Rynning Clark of Astoria, two sons, two daughters, six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, one brother, one brother-in-law, and three sisters-in-law.
Memorial services were held in Astoria on Feb. 7, 2004. Interment and graveside services with military rites by the American Legion will be held at Oak Grove Cemetery, La Crosse, on Monday, Aug. 23, at 10 a.m. Pastor Mark Solyst will preside. The burial site will be in the new section of Oak Grove toward the back. All friends are invited.
Mervin ‘Shorty' Anderson
VIROQUA, Wis. — Mervin "Shorty" Anderson, 80, of 200 Park View Manor in Viroqua, died Thursday, Aug. 19, 2004, at his apartment of an apparent heart attack.
He was born on July 2, 1924, in Clinton Township, Vernon County, to Alfred and Hilda (Parr) Anderson. He graduated from Westby High School in 1942.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
During his working years he had farmed, worked at Tri-State Breeders and at Damaskus Steel Corp. in Rockford, Ill. Prior to retiring, he worked for Howard Johnson Enterprises in Viroqua.
After retiring, he worked as a chauffeur for Phil Bigley and Kelly Marx, and worked as a desk clerk at the Midway Motel in Viroqua. He was a member of the Jacobson-Olson American Legion Post 138 in Viroqua and the Viroqua Eagles, and had served as president of the resident council at Park View Manor.
Shorty is survived by one sister, Doris (Larry) Kriigel of Florence, Ariz., several nieces, nephews and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Lyle Anderson and Donald Anderson.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 24, at Thorson Funeral Home, Viroqua, with Pastor Charles Shepard officiating.
Burial will be in Sugar Grove Cemetery, rural Westby. Military rites will be provided by Running-Johnson-Ray VFW Post 3032 and Jacobson-Olson American Legion Post 138. Friends may call Monday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home and Tuesday after 8 a.m.
Vincent E. Vespo
TOMAH, Wis. — Vincent E. Vespo, 48, of Tomah died Wednesday, Aug. 18, 2004, at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center, La Crosse.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at his home, 25590 Hwy. ET, Tomah. Military honors will be by Curtis-McNutt VFW Post 1382. Sonnenburg Family Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Glen J. Boullion
ONALASKA, Wis. — Glen J. Boullion, 89, of Onalaska died at the Onalaska Care Center on Wednesday, Aug. 18, 2004. He was born in Fairchild, Wis., on Feb. 15, 1915, to Alfred and Anna (Kaufman) Boullion.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1936 to 1943. On Oct. 6, 1945, he married Mildred Roesler Proksch. Glen owned Green Lantern Cafe in Galesville, Wis., for 20 years and worked at Happy Chef in Winona before moving to Colorado Springs. In 1992, he moved to Onalaska where he was a member of the American Legion for 62 years and also a member of the Knights of Columbus.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a grandson, David (Dawn) Eichman of Tomahawk, Wis.; a great-grandson, Jonathan Eichman; a brother, Anthony of Onalaska; a sister, Margaret Mahan of West Salem, Wis.; special friends, Patricia and Gerald Eichman of Washburn, Wis.; and grandchildren, Debra, Dorothy, Daniel, Darcey, Donald and Douglas.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, David; a twin brother, Gordon; and a sister, Mildred Schlicht.
A memorial Mass will be held on Monday, Aug. 23, at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Onalaska. The Rev. William Matzek will officiate. Following Glen's wishes, he will be cremated and interment of cremains will be at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Friends may call at the church Monday from 10 a.m. until time of services. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred for St. Patrick's Catholic Church or the Aquinas High School Memorial Fund.
