"Your vote counts," she said to a crowd of students at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse on Thursday.
"And this time it will be counted," Edwards said, referring to the Florida presidential recount controversy of 2000.
Edwards, daughter of Democratic vice presidential candidate John Edwards, visited UW-L and encouraged students to voice their opinions at the polls.
She discussed college tuition, jobs, health care and the war on terror, and spent the majority of the meeting answering audience questions.
Clad in blue jeans and sandals, the Princeton University graduate blended with an audience composed mainly of 100 or more students.
Addressing questions about the economy, Edwards said the Democratic candidates would work hard to keep jobs from going overseas by eliminating tax cuts for companies.
She said the candidates will create more job opportunities in the U.S. and raise minimum wage to $7, a point that gained applause and cheers from listeners.
Criticizing President Bush, Edwards said the current administration had no plan for improving healthcare, but that Kerry's plan would make health services available to everyone.
Audience members also voiced concern about Kerry's plans for the reconstruction of Iraq.
Edwards said the effort will involve a four point plan that included having allies, bringing in NATO, enabling Iraq to secure itself and helping the Iraqi people govern themselves through less U.S. occupation.
Edwards said that although she wants young people to support her father, it is more important for students to get involved and vote.
