Menard, the Kwik Trip Late Model track champion at the La Crosse Fairgrounds Speedway, as well as the Weekly Racing Series Midwest Region champion, said he could have borrowed Tim Schendel's AutoZone car, but decided he would be busy enough running a La Crosse Late Model and a Wisconsin Late Model car during the four-day event, which runs Oct. 7-10.
"This Oktoberfest, for me, we're really looking forward to capping off the season. We are so darn serious all the time we really haven't had a lot of fun along the way," Menard said of his season at the Fairgrounds Speedway, where he won six of 18 feature races. "We will be serious for the Fest Weekend, but decided not to tax ourselves with a touring (AutoZone) car.
"Schendel offered it to us, but we are not going to spread our team so thin just to run that race. We're still going to have four cars there, and we're looking forward to that."
NO REPEAT: Menard said he is not going to run at the Fairgrounds Speedway full-time in 2005, instead opting to run a number of other regional series like the MARS, the Wisconsin Challenge Series, and perhaps even a few NASCAR AutoZone Elite Divison, Midwest Series races.
"We are not going to run for the points at La Crosse. We will come down there for some of the nights that we can," Menard said. "Running La Crosse will keep us sharp."
Menard said the driver of the other Menards Team car, Andy Burgess, might very well run for the championship at the Fairgounds Speedway next season.
