His cat, Chipper, was loose in his neighbor's yard about 7 a.m. Wednesday. The neighbor called police, and an officer arrived on the man's doorstep with a fifth citation for violating the city of La Crosse ordinance.
Normally, the fine for a cat at large is $56.80, but after his third citation, Chipper's owner was warned by Municipal Judge Dennis Marcou his next fine would be higher.
It was. In September, he was fined $280 for a fourth citation, according to Municipal Court records.
And Chipper's owner has paid all his cat fines, the court records said.
On Wednesday, Chipper's owner was apologetic and told the officer he was expecting the visit after his children left a door open and Chipper dashed to freedom, the police report said.
The man will be fined another $280, according to the report.
The La Crosse County fine for an at-large pet is $243.
