Larry R. Humfeld, 24, of Stoddard, Wis., was fatally injured about 1 a.m. Sunday when he was struck by a roll of newsprint.
Humfeld became a press operator for River Valley Newspapers in 2002 after graduating from Western Wisconsin Technical College.
La Crosse police are investigating the accident.
Humfeld married Amy Kimmet of La Crosse on Jan. 24, 2004, and was looking forward to the birth of their first child, who is due in February 2006.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with Larry's family," Tribune publisher Rusty Cunningham said. "He was a dedicated and caring young man, and we all feel a huge sense of loss from this tragedy."
Humfeld was taken to Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center after the accident and died there Sunday night.
Cunningham said grief counseling will be available for Humfeld's co-workers and other River Valley Newspaper staff members.
