Pawlenty suggests surrounding St. Peter hospital with razor wire

.
Gov. Tim Pawlenty called for security upgrades at the state treatment center in St. Peter, Minn., where four men escaped over the weekend.

Pawlenty told WDAY-AM in Fargo, N.D., that razor wire should be placed around the entire perimeter of the hospital, where convicted rapist Michael Benson and three other men escaped.
``They were designed as hospitals, but they have to be secure,'' Pawlenty said Wednesday.

Benson remained at large on Thursday. The other three men were quickly recaptured.

Authorities have said Benson, 42, stole a car near St. Peter. His last credible sighting was Monday afternoon near Cass Lake.

" A man escapes his incompetent security guards, gets to the fence, and cuts himself to ribbons trying to get over. The keystone kops then drag his corpse back to the hospital where he's pronounced dead from lacerations and blood loss. Why not look into improving the in-place security that clearly lapsed? Was the bottom-line problem REALLY the fact that the fence wasn't covered in razor wire? Or could it be that the guards weren't doing their jobs? "
