From 1 to 3 p.m. there will be cake and memories, as well as dogs and cats available for adoption.
Those attending the anniversary celebration are asked to help start the next 35 years by bringing donations for the Drive for 35. The drive asks people to donate 35 things. It can be $35, 35 dimes, 35 coins or 35 items from the wish list. Executive Director Heather Schmid encourages people to be creative and have fun with the idea.
Raffles will be available for participants. For those looking to adopt, the shelter’s doors will open at 1 p.m. Saturday and will remain open until 5 p.m. Sunday as the second Adoptathon gets under way.
To encourage adoption, Central Animal Hospital committed to spaying and neutering at least 15 animals prior to the event, Schmid said. However, she noted, the same adoption process will be in effect during the event.
Several pooches rescued by the Sheboygan County Humane Society and the Wisconsin Puppy Mill Project will be at the event, looking for homes. The animals were rescued from a hoarding situation that involved 76 large-breed dogs being kept in a single-family ranch-style home, Schmid said. Brenengen Auto donated a van to transport the dogs to Onalaska.
