U.S. Reps. Ron Kind, D-La Crosse, and Gil Gutknecht, R-Rochester, Minn., called for a period of voluntary “Slow, No Wake” and “Electric Motor Areas” to determine whether voluntary restrictions work.
The congressmen met with U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Director Dale Hall and the Acting Chief of the Refuges Geoffrey Haskett.
Thursday, the congressmen sent Hall a letter calling voluntary restrictions “a balanced solution that recognizes the refuge’s short-term and long-term needs and maintains the essential public-private partnerships in managing the refuge.”
