Lostetter is retiring as vice chancellor of administration and finance at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse but will start a similar job at the Presbyterian-affiliated Carroll College in Waukesha, Wis.
He joins former UW-L Chancellor Douglas Hastad, who started as Carroll’s president in July.
Lostetter starts Oct. 1 as Carroll’s vice president for finance and administrative services.
A graduate of UW-Eau Claire and UW-Oshkosh, Lostetter has spent 34 years at various UW System campuses and has been at UW-L since 1999.
Calling his current job “one of the plum positions in the UW System,” Lostetter said it wasn’t an issue of leaving UW-L as much as “taking a look at what might be an adventure at this point in my career.”
During what he called his “fact-finding” visits to Carroll, Lostetter said he found a campus excited about improving. Having a “strong and successful history” with Hastad is a bonus of the job.
“He came here, and he literally impressed everyone he talked to,” Hastad said.
Lostetter emphasized UW-L’s financial struggles over the past several years were not a factor in his decision.
“That would seem like I was running from something,” he said. “When you are in public higher education, you accept those challenges and you make it work.”
