A bartender told investigators that she recognized Chad Rinas' voice during the hold up, the complaint said. Rinas worked at the bar and had finished his shift at 9 p.m. Thursday, the night of the robbery.
The bartender said she was closing up CC Cody's Tavern when she turned and saw a man in a gray hooded sweat shirt and ski mask pointing a gun at her, the complaint said. The man told her to get down and then shoved her to the floor. The bartender said that when she turned, the cash drawer and her purse were gone.
Rinas then drove with his girlfriend to a gas station in nearby Kewaskum, where he threw some items into a garbage can, the complaint said. Police later found a gray sweat shirt and the cash drawer in the garbage, it said.
Law enforcement officers arrested Rinas at a Campbellsport mobile home park after a 12-hour search, Fond du Lac County Sheriff's Capt. Dean Will said. Local schools were locked down during the search because Rinas was considered armed and dangerous, sheriff's Lt. Bill Flood said.
Law enforcement agents found ammunition but no gun in Rinas' car, which was parked at his girlfriend's parents' home, the complaint said. Rinas' girlfriend told investigators that he had not mentioned the robbery to her, the complaint said.
Rinas was charged with armed robbery with use of force, obstructing an officer and two counts of misdemeanor bail jumping. He was held in the Fond du Lac County jail on $40,000 cash bond and faces up to 42 years in prison if convicted.
He was ordered during a Tuesday court appearance to have no contact with his girlfriend or the bartender.
