What about bans on other sins?

.
Letters supporting the gay marriage ban abound, and most quote the Bible as the source for deciding that homosexuality is a sin and therefore we need a constitutional amendment to ban it.

Well, according to the Bible, divorce is also morally wrong. “... and she shall be his wife; he may not put her away all his days.” (Deuteronomy 22:19) “Whosoever putteth away his wife and marrieth another, committeth adultery.” (Luke 16:18) “What therefore God hath joined together, let no man put asunder.” (Matthew 19:6, Mark 10:9) And we know adultery, lying and stealing are such grave sins that not only are they mentioned in the Bible, each rates its own commandment given by God to Moses. (Exodus 20:14-16)
So where is the hue and cry for a constitutional amendment outlawing these activities and denying people guilty of these sins their rights? Adultery and divorce in our society are far more detrimental to marriage and families than gay marriage could ever possibly be.

Another benefit of a constitutional amendment banning divorce, adultery, lying, cheating and stealing would be that we could expel all congressmen, senators and presidents guilty of these sins. If we could then deny them their pensions, we could save the taxpayers so much money that we could lower taxes for generations to come!

Vote no on the gay marriage amendment and let God deal with “sin,” not the legislators.
