If you don’t believe me please select any rural location in central Alaska (i.e. area about but not Fairbanks AK itself which is an urban heat island) via http://www.wunderground.com/cgi-bin/findweather/getForecast?query=AK and play the daily history back day by day. When 2007 is not the coldest day of record 2006 or 2005 generally is. Isn’t strange that we are not reading much about Alaska this winter? If Alaska were setting record warm days it would be front page news. If the PDO has changed state the environmental spin-misters have their work cut out for them and it will be most entertaining. "

Simply because he was foolish enough, as well as intellectually lazy enough, to believe an ice age was impending without looking at the context do not mean a consensus on global cooling existed. Scientists realized that pollution might cause a global cooling, but at the same time, they recognized the problem of CO 2 emissions – they did not know which effect would prevail. To the skeptics that have commented thus far, present actual facts and evidence when you say global warming is a hoax. All you have done is provide conjecture and ad hominen attacks, not dealt with the issue. You can disagree with the cause of global warming, but not because its cold outside or a conservationist flies a plane. "

" The ozone hole has nothing to do with global warming. It was caused by chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs, used in air conditioners and refrigerators) which in the stratosphere are broken down by UV light into Cl atoms. THese Cl atoms catalyze a chain reaction with strotospheric ozone to form O2, normal oxygen. The ozone protects us, and frogs, from damaging UV light. Predictions were that when CFCs stopped going into the system the ozone hole would repair itself. So far we are essentially on the model predictions. "

Please do not spread spread junk science. Your assertions are ridiculous. Refuting global climate change on the basis of a three week cold outbreak in the upper Midwest is scientifically invalid. Our recent cold snap is notable, but not historic. It is easily surpassed by February 1996. Current winter conditions are most directly related to the cycles of equatorial Pacific water temperatures switching from El Nino phase to La Nina. The Pacific Decadal Oscillation also affects climate in a broader way. "Global" means everywhere on Earth. "Climate" means trends over years, decades, or centuries. You've discovered a "Regional Weather" change, but that's it. "
