Humane Society seeks information on shot dog

.
A yellow Labrador retriever is recuperating at the Coulee Region Humane Society after being found shot March 15 in the town of Greenfield.

The dog, found on Kreibich Road by a resident, needed immediate surgery for two gunshot wounds.
No one has come forward to claim the dog, so the Humane Society is asking anyone who might have information to call (608) 781-4014.

The dog is a neutered male, believed to be about 2 or 3 years old, large and broad-chested, with golden-yellow color and golden-brown eyes. He is friendly and knows several basic commands, such as “sit” and “down,” said Heather Schmid, Humane Society executive director.

I also wonder???? wrote on Mar 29, 2007 7:57 AM:

" So, if its now known who has shot this poor innocent dog, why isn't somebody investigating this or this persons name coming out for the public to know? I think maybe they should give up on all the news over drinking in the LaCrosse area, and follow through with stories like this. Something is certainly being covered up by somebody, at the expense of an innocent animal and obviously by a family that cared for him, given the dogs demeanor and care. If this person shoots animals like this, who is to say that he is safe to have around humans having a gun? "

Why? wrote on Mar 26, 2007 8:05 AM:

" So, if they know who this animal belongs to, do they not mention anything about the shooter? This animal was shot from behind, so he was not being a threat to the shooter. Obviously some coward out abusing their privilege to carry a gun, doing target practice on innocent animals.......sick individual! Why isn't the Tribune reporting on the shooter any more? Sounds like a cover up to me. "

" A local veterinarian donated the surgery and aftercare. This dog had two gunshot wounds and was wagging his tail when petted or spoken to. "

" Reading the article, this dog was, one time, well cared for, trained and loved. I hope he finds another loving, caring family. Seems as he deserves it. "

The reason wrote on Mar 23, 2007 4:04 PM:

" People do this is because they have pathetic lives. I know some people that shoot animals of other people they don't get along with. Like it's the animals fault that these morons don't get along with each other. That's ok though. God has a way of getting even with these jerks. They guy I know went through some sad times himself when his son who he trained to be the same way was killed while driving drunk. I guess what goes around comes around! "

" You post this junk to get a rise out people. For some sick reason you must think this is cool. Your just as sick as the person who pulled the trigger. "

Not how you treat animals wrote on Mar 23, 2007 3:42 PM:

" You do not just go down and start shooting at animals. Do these people think of whose dog it might be? Some little girl who is attached at the hip with it or a senior citizens who depends on it. Shooting it is not the way to treat an animal. There's a more humane way to take care of animals than that. I hope this person gets jail time for cruelty. "

Why no one's claimed the dog wrote on Mar 23, 2007 11:52 AM:

" Maybe the reason no one's claimed the dog is because the person who shot him was the owner. Maybe the owner was abusive and the dog made him mad so he decided to do away with him. You never know anymore...there's a lot of sick and cruel people out there. I sure hope this dog finds a loving family to take him in. "

" Valley Boys have dirty hats and drive dump trucks. They cant hit anything deer hunting so they have to go to the tavern and talk about the dogs they shot running their deer they cant hit. "

just terrible... wrote on Mar 23, 2007 10:48 AM:

" what a redneck.. i cant believe some people. that poor dog. it probably has a family, a child, just got out somehow. thank goodness for the humane society.. "

Thank goodness wrote on Mar 23, 2007 10:31 AM:

" This poor dog is now safe and being well-cared for, thanks to the Humane Society. And thanks to the kind resident who found him. And, unless, the dog escaped from his home somehow, the owner is also to blame for allowing him to roam. Why isn't anyone claiming him? "

Dink wrote on Mar 23, 2007 10:12 AM:

" Hey "No Wonder", this isn't a deer, coyote, or even the much feared "feral cat"--it's a domesticated animal. You and the person who did this seem to have the same inhumane psychological issues. By the way, the animal was found in the county. A La Crosse City Cadet would have no involvement in the matter and secondly, they don't carry firearms. Just FYI in case there's a feral labrador in your neighborhood. "

RE: No wonder wrote on Mar 23, 2007 9:57 AM:

" The humane society has to pay for things like this because some jerk did this in the first place. Thank god for the Humane society and to any vet who helps out also. "

TO: No Wonder wrote on Mar 23, 2007 9:43 AM:

" Well, if you were shot twice and needed surgery I'm sure you'd want that over another bullet. How cruel! "

No wonder wrote on Mar 23, 2007 9:26 AM:

" No wonder the humane society charges are so high that the police chief wanted the cadets to take over. These guys are out giving surgery to stray dogs. They need to pay for stuff like this, that is why they charge so much. A cadet could have taken care of this animal. The only thing this dog needed was one more bullet! "

wow wrote on Mar 23, 2007 7:36 AM:

" for the men that do these things, and we all know it was a man, are they dealing with shortcomings that are somehow satisfied with the shooting a dog? Of all things a dog. I don't get it. Is there even a sliver just a tiny speck of compassion or any emotion in them, besides of course rage or anger....what must it be like to be the wives and children of men like this.......is there a psychologist that can explain how a person rationalize this type of thinking? "
