HOWES ATTENDS BUYING & SEMINAR CONFERENCE IN SAN ANTONIO, TX

Bill, Jan, and Dan Howes of Howes Diamond Jewelers recently attended a series of educational seminars, workshops, and courses at the Independent Jewelers Organization's (IJO) Spring Buying & Seminar Conference held in San Antonio, TX. The Howes Family also had the opportunity to preview the latest jewelry styles from more than 150 top jewelry manufacturers and designers. Many of these styles are exclusive to Master IJO Jeweler members and are not available to any other stores in this area.

Local Resident Joins Edward Jones Team

Mary Ellen Smith recently joined the La Crosse office of the financial-services firm Edward Jones as a branch office assistant. Smith has lived in La Crosse for 45 years. "On a given day, Mary Ellen's activities could include processing client trade transactions, providing clients with receipts for money and securities, and assisting in the planning of seminars and special promotions." said Cory Roupe, the office's financial advisor. Tanya LeJeune Joins Community Financial Services Located in Fortress Bank

La Crosse Community Financial Services (CFS) announces the appointment of Tanya LeJeune as a Financial Representative in the La Crosse office of Fortress Bank. The firm provides financial and retirement planning, along with investment* and insurance services.

LeJeune joins CFS with more than 12 years of experience in personal and business finance services, most recently with Fortress Bank Minnesota. She is a Director for the Houston Lions Club - 5M1 District, Board Member for the Houston County Early Childhood Initiative, and serves as Vice-Chair for the Houston Chamber of Commerce. State Farm® Lowers Wisconsin Auto Insurance Rates

State Farm Mutual Automobile Insurance Company, the largest insurer of autos in the nation, is lowering its overall rate level in Wisconsin an avearage of 1.9 percent effective April 16. This represents an annual savings of $5.3 million to the company's Wisconsin customers. After this rate change is implemented, State Farm's overall rate level in Wisconsin will be 20.4 percent lower than it was 16 years ago. Premiums for the liability, medical payments, collision and comprehensive coverage pays for losses from such perils as theft, storm damage, fire, vandalism and glass breakage. Overall premium changes for individual motorists will vary depending on factors such as the coverages they carry, the discounts for which they qualify, where they live, the kind of car insured, who drives it and how much it is driven. In addition, State Farm recently announced a $16.6 million dividend in Wisconsin from which State Farm Mutual auto policyholders in the state will receive 12.0 percent of their semi-annual premium. Dividend payments will begin in early April and will continue throughout the year. About one in every eight cars insured in Wisconsin is insured by State Farm.

University of Wisconsin - La Crosse Marketing Professor Joe Chilsen coordinated his students as judges basing their decision on booth appearance, personal greeting, availability of contact information, quality of printed materials and the booth's overall appearance.

Clark assumes new role at Tri-State Ambulance

Jay Clark, NREMT-P, CCEMTP, Tri-State Ambulance, is taking on the role of operations supervisor at Tri-State Ambulance. Clark has been with Tri-State Ambulance for the past three years as a paramedic, his new duties will include, directing the daily function of operations, coordinating staffing resources and anything that will help Tri-State Ambulance exceed customer expectations.

In addition, Clark will be responsible for additional programs including the development and maintenance of vehicle service programs, facilities operations and inventory supply. He will still be responding to calls when additional support is required during large-scale incidents or when field assistance is necessary. Tri-State Ambulance is a wholly owned subsidiary of Gundersen Lutheran.

Nurse practitioner brings her experience to Gundersen Lutheran

Lisa Sullivan, FNP, is caring for patients as a nurse practitioner in the Gundersen Lutheran - Onalaska Clinic Internal Medicine department. She will help manage complex medical cases including chronic conditions like hypertension and diabetes. Her role will be to help prevent long-term health consequences.

Previous to her position at Gundersen Lutheran, Sullivan worked as a nurse practitioner at Krohn Clinic and the Black River Memorial Hospital in Black River Falls. She received her Bachelor of Science in nursing from the University of Colorado, Boulder, Colo., and her Master of Science in nursing from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh.

New counselor enthusiastic about new position in Gundersen Lutheran Behavioral Health

Sarah Johnson, MS, LPC, is stepping in to the newly created Gundersen Lutheran Behavioral Health position called triage therapist. Johnson will be part of a designated clinical team that quickly initiates appropriate assessments and treatment interventions for Behavioral Health patients. The goal of the team is to provide service more quickly than what had been available for this vulnerable patient population.

Johnson is a licensed professional counselor and nationally certified counselor. She received her master's degree in community counseling from Winona State University (WSU), Winona, Minn. Before joining Gundersen Lutheran, she worked at Hiawatha Valley Mental Health Center in Winona, Minn., as a counselor and case manager.

Klemond adds board certification to excellent care at Gundersen Lutheran

Only 2,147 physicians in the United States are board certified by the American Board of Hospice and Palliative Medicine (ABHPM). Gundersen Lutheran now has two board certified members with the recent certification of Tom Klemond, MD, Gundersen Lutheran Internal Medicine. Robert Witte, MD, Gundersen Lutheran Hematology/Oncology, received his ABHPM certification almost five years ago.

Hospice and Palliative Medicine is the practice of achieving the best possible quality of life for patients and their families throughout the course of a life-threatening illness through the relief of suffering and the control of symptoms. The American Board of Hospice and Palliative Medicine was formed in 1995 to establish and measure the level of knowledge, attitudes and skills required for certification of physicians practicing hospice and palliative medicine.
