Some skeptics of this plan believe that the plant will add negative elements to the city. In reality, the plant would only cause an increase in traffic. An ethanol plant is not much of an eyesore, and produces a fraction of the pollution from local power plants.
Most of us accept that our heavy use of petroleum has helped global warming. Ethanol helps to improve the environment. First, growing the needed substances takes more carbon dioxide from the air. Also, ethanol made from corn kernels, used in E85, removes more than one-fourth of the greenhouse gases from vehicle emissions. Cellulosic ethanol (a superior type) used in E85 removes almost 100 percent of the greenhouse gases that helped cause and promote global warming.
Ethanol is one of the best fuel sources available in the history of mankind. One plant may seem like a small step to widespread use of ethanol, but it’s still a step. It’s imperative we support any type of research toward our goal of not needing oil. It can be done. Brazil hopes to wean itself off of foreign oil completely by the end of the year. It isn’t political, or biased; it is an essential improvement to our planet.
