Details about the new office will be announced at a press conference today.
The St. Paul-based company confirmed Thursday to the Tribune that it plans to open the office at 606 George St. with about 20 employees.
“We hope by the end of 2007 to have 70 full-time equivalent positions,” said Mary Guthrie, vice president of human resources. The latter number represents a combination of full- and part-time jobs. The company prefers to hire people as full-time employees, she said.
Employees will make telephone calls to attempt to collect money owed to its clients. “Our customers range from small businesses to Fortune 500 companies,” Guthrie said. I.C. System has more than 30,000 clients, mostly in the United States, she said.
La Crosse will be the company’s fifth major branch office, Guthrie said. The others are in St. Paul; Mason City, Iowa; Fargo, N.D.; and Tampa, Fla. The company likes to have about 250 employees at each branch office. “Business needs” will determine how soon that number is reached in La Crosse, Guthrie said.
“We plan on having long-term expansion opportunities in La Crosse,” Guthrie said. “At some point, we’ll look at a larger location.”
Initially, the company will lease 13,000 square feet of space in the former Trane Plant 6 building. The building also formerly housed LaCrosse Footwear Inc.’s corporate offices and product development center, and more recently has been occupied by Logistics Health Inc.
