The letter sent in by Tilman Simonson regarding tattoos was terribly ignorant. First off, how can you say that getting a tattoo has to be painful if you’ve never experienced it? Everyone has different sensitivity levels. For the comment about people covered in tattoos that look “terrible,” do you think they honestly are worried about what you think? In most cases, people get tattoos for themselves. Many have personal meaning, and I don’t think that narrow-minded people should judge them.
Also, just because some people regret their tattoos doesn’t mean that everyone who has a tattoo will regret theirs; the lady in your example got a tattoo on a dare, not because she really wanted one or thought about it.
Just like almost any profession, some tattoo artists will make a lot and some will not make as much, but that’s how life is. Regarding the comment about how people could spend their money on “better things,” what about the person who buys a $150,000 Hummer? (Yes, some do cost that much.) Shouldn’t they be buying a less expensive vehicle and giving the rest to charities?
Guess what? It’s their money, and while charity causes certainly deserve it, people can choose what they want to do with their money and do what makes them happy. It just depends on what makes you happy.
