Carol G. Thompson
GALESVILLE, Wis. — Carol Gloria Thompson, 83, of Galesville died Monday, June 25, 2007, at Tri-County Memorial Hospital, Whitehall, Wis.

Gloria was born Jan. 31, 1924, in Chicago to Peter and Eva (Carlson) Hayes.

Gloria grew up in a loving family with her brothers, John and Michael, and her sisters, June and Kathleen. On June 19, 1948, Carol married Frank Thompson, a merchant marine from Farmington, Wash., in Chicago. Together they purchased a 400-acre river ranch along the Columbia River in Washington. On Nov. 16, 1950, they welcomed the birth of their daughter, Alicia Christine. A few years later, Carol was widowed when her husband was killed in an automobile accident in October 1953. Realizing the importance of family, she returned to Illinois to raise her daughter.

After living in the beautiful countryside of Washington, Carol was able to recapture that beauty and share it with her daughter when she purchased a hobby farm in Galesville. It became a favorite getaway from the hustle and bustle of the Windy City until she permanently moved in 1970. Never one to stay idle for long, she found employment with Gale Products, where she remained until her retirement in 1985.

The role she truly relished was that of being a grandmother. Her childhood loves of baseball, fishing and the great outdoors were passed along to three grandchildren, Melissa, Travis and Johanna. Her joy was multiplied by the births of Isaiah and Sierra, her great-grandchildren.

Carol will be remembered for her warm smile, delightful sense of humor and her giving spirit. Her love of family was equaled only by her love of God. It was her strong faith in the Bible’s promises that brought her purpose, comfort and happiness as well as a sure hope for the future.

Carol is survived by her daughter, Christine Ryder of Galesville; three grandchildren, Melissa (Jeff) Kuchel and Travis Church, both of Galesville, and Jo (Tim) Severson of Onalaska, Wis.; two great-grandchildren, Isaiah and Sierra; a stepson, R.J. Thompson of Salem, Ore.; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Carol was preceded in death by her two brothers and her two sisters.

Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Galesville, with Mr. John Swanson officiating.

Jack Funeral Home, Whitehall, is assisting the family with arrangements.
