Gundersen Lutheran orthopaedic nurse earns certification
Recently, the National Association of Orthopaedic Nurses (NAON) awarded Erin Wuchina, RN, ONC, Gundersen Lutheran Orthopaedic Surgery, certification as an orthopaedic nurse. This is the culmination of more than 20 years of work in orthopaedics as a medical assistant, X-ray technician and a registered nurse in a private orthopaedic practice and at Gundersen Lutheran.
Orthopaedic nursing certification provides tangible evidence that Wuchina has the specialized knowledge and experience required to effectively provide care to patients dealing with musculoskeletal injuries, birth defects or diseases.
According to the NAON, certification promotes quality patient care, an elevation of the standards of orthopaedic nursing practice, and an increase of self-esteem and personal satisfaction. The NAON certification program further establishes orthopaedic nursing as a specialty and recognizes expertise in the field.
New Allergy & Immunology provider at Gundersen Lutheran
Trained at the University of Wisconsin-Madison where asthma research is cutting edge, Jason Knuffman, MD, says his allergy interest arose from his mentors there. It's not surprising, then, that one of the reasons he chose to join Gundersen Lutheran as an allergist was because of the presence of teaching opportunities.
In his time at UW-Madison, Dr. Knuffman served as an intern, resident, part-time clinical instructor, part-time hospitalist and an Allergy/Immunology fellow. He earned his doctor of medicine and his bachelor of science from Saint Louis University School of Medicine and is board certified in Internal Medicine.
Though he enjoys treating familiar conditions such as asthma and rhinitis, he also notes special interest in managing stinging insect allergy, food allergy and other less common problems such as hypereosinophilia.
