Published - Saturday, September 08, 2007 Eagles continue hot start with two wins COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — The UW-La Crosse volleyball team continued its impressive start by winning two matches Friday at the Colorado College tournament. The Eagles beat Webster University of St. Louis by scores of 30-22, 30-27, 30-28. Former Tomah High School standout Amber Schoonover led the Eagles with 12 kills, 18 assists and three blocks. Teammate Katelyn Carlson added 10 kills, while Sammi Dries had 42 assists and 12 digs. In its second match, UW-L beat Colorado College, 30-22, 21-30, 30-28, 30-26. Again it was Carlson who stepped up with 17 kills, 7 digs and two blocks. Schoonover was a factor, too, with 17 kills, 16 digs and three blocks. Dries added 50 assists and a key block in the third game. “We did some great things in transition and got some key blocks,” UW-L coach Sheila Perkins said. “We really played well in the last five points of the last two games.” VITERBO: Viterbo University split a pair of matches at the Gustavus Adolphus tournament in St. Peter, Minn. Carleton College beat the V-Hawks, 30-22, 30-22, 30-18 in the first match. The V-Hawks rallied to beat St. Scholastica 30-24, 30-21, 26-30, 30-26 in their second match. Former Tomah High School standout Abby Breitung led Viterbo (5-3) with 18 kills, while Heather Harelstad had 26 digs. Micaela Bjerke led the V-Hawks with 35 assists.
