The conservancy’s agreement with Lynne and Keith Valiquette means while they will retain ownership, the property can have only minimal development. That will not change no matter who owns the property in the future.
“In a world where so much is going wrong, it feels great to do something right,” Lynne Valiquette said of the agreement.
Much of the land is secluded at the end of a valley, said George Howe, conservation director for the nonprofit land trust.
“Hiking deeper into the valley, beautiful, rolling fields give way to dramatic bluff slopes that rise up quickly to scenic ridges,” Howe said. “The view from the ridge-top overlook is breathtaking.”
The Mississippi Valley Conservancy now has protected almost 4,200 acres of
land in southwestern Wisconsin through voluntary conservation with private landowners, businesses and communities.
