UW-L seeks public-use bikes

.
Those looking to go green and save gas can take advantage of a program at the University of Wisconsin-

La Crosse.
The “green bike” program started three years ago when a number of donated bikes were painted bright green and placed throughout the UW-L campus for free use.

The UW-L Outdoor Connection now runs the program, with a few changes.

Any member of the community now can come to the Eagle Recreation Center and place a $20 deposit to use a bike for as long as they wish. When they return the bike, $10 of the deposit is mailed back, said group member Alex Devonald.

If the bike is not returned, the Outdoor Connection keeps the money, Devonald said.

The group now needs unwanted bikes from the public for its fleet.

“To donate, just bring a bike to the Eagle Rec Center on campus,” Devonald said. “We’ll take care of it after that.”

" Yeah great idea! I'll donate (give) you my bike, so you can rent (make money) off it. Buy your own damn bikes if you want to rent them out! Go down to the city impound and get your bikes! Anything besides begging for freebies so you can make a buck. Uwl get their hands on anything and it ends up costing money. Should be ashamed. "
