The MVC says the agreement is a significant achievement because it protects one of the most ecologically valuable natural areas in southern Wisconsin. The property contains plants that are extremely rare, including species that have not been documented anywhere else in the state.
Founded in 1997 in La Crosse, the Mississippi Valley Conservancy is a regional, nonprofit land trust that has protected about 5,300 acres of scenic lands in southwestern Wisconsin by working with private landowners, businesses and local communities on voluntary conservation projects.
