She claimed that she wasn't overfeeding him and didn't go to a vet and try to figure out what the problem was. That is neglect. Yes, she should have taken her dog to the vet sooner, but she didn't. So many times, people gain weight over a period of years, a little at a time, and all of a sudden they are surprised how they went from a size 8 to a size 12 in a few years. Probably no different for this pooch too. "

We all love our animals and want them happy but feeding them to death isn't how to take care of them.
Animal control doesn't get involved unless there is a real issue going on. They don't draw names out of the phone book on who they are going to investigate.
Some one originally made the call to the shelter out of concern for the dog.
If the call wasn't made she would have never known for sure the dog did have health issues.
She had the thought of thyroid diease but didn't take the steps to control it. Now she has the problem of correcting what should have been done before.
