Robert W. Anderson
Robert W. Anderson, 76, of La Crosse died Sunday, Oct. 14, 2007, at Hillview Health Care Center in La Crosse.
He was born in La Crosse on Oct. 1, 1931, to Christian and Florence Anderson. He married Delores Loveng on Aug. 1, 1953, and they later divorced. He then married Marlene Dexter on July 18, 1959, who preceded him in death on Dec. 6, 2001.
Bob served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He worked for the Falk Corp. in Milwaukee for about 10 years. He then owned and operated the Wildwoods Supper Club in Glidden, Wis., for 14 years and then owned and operated Anderson Fuels in Mellen, Wis., for an additional 14 years. He then worked for a short time at the Ho Chunk Casino in Wisconsin Dells, Wis., before retiring. He eventually moved to La Crosse in 2003 to be closer to family.
Bob was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish. He also guided bear hunting and fishing excursions while he lived in Northern Wisconsin. Bob also enjoyed golfing and loved to travel throughout his life.
Bob had a great love for people, always wanting to provide some form of entertainment to make you laugh. Whether it was at their supper club, oil business or anywhere he could approach you, it made no difference if he knew you or not, he just wanted to see the smile on your face. Those of us that were blessed to have been a part of his life will miss him dearly.
His suffering is over and he is at peace with our Lord.
He is survived by a daughter, Denise Kolve of La Crosse; a son, David (Marilyn) Anderson of Rushford, Minn.; six grandchildren, Todd (Ginger) Anderson, Mary Kolve, Tim (Jennifer) Kolve, Nicole (Nate) Kelemen, Brian Kolve, and Lindsay De Clute; six great-grandchildren; three sisters, Jeannie Rhode of La Crosse, Darlene Atkinson of Racine, Wis., and Shirley (Bill) Siemionko of Windsor Locks, Conn.; four brothers, Richard (Josie) Anderson of Cudahy, Wis., Christian Anderson of La Crosse, Gaylord (Linda) Anderson of Omaha, Neb., and Jim (Debbie) Anderson of Grafton, Wis.; and numerous nieces and nephews. He also cherished the companionship of his dogs. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 17, at Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home of La Crosse. Pastor Rick Sella will officiate. Friends may call at the funeral home today from 6 to 8 p.m. and Wednesday from 10 a.m. until time of services.

TOMAH, Wis. — Erin M. Briney, 10, of Tomah passed away Friday, Oct. 12, 2007, in Madison as a result of carbon monoxide poisoning. She was born Jan. 28, 1997, to Rex and Karina (Clay) Briney in Tomah.
She attended Lemonweir Elementary School and was in the fifth grade. She enjoyed dancing, tumbling, drawing and spending time with the horses. She loved the movie Charmed and the Art of Magic. Erin was a member of the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
She is survived by her parents, Karina Clay and Rex Briney of Tomah; a brother, Sarek Cochems-Wendt of Tomah; her grandmother, Shirley Briney of Tomah; her grandfather, Ralph Briney of Norwalk, Wis.; aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives and many friends.

TOMAH, Wis. — Hope Ann Briney, 13, of Tomah passed away Friday, Oct. 12, 2007, in Madison as a result of carbon monoxide poisoning. She was born on Sept. 27, 1994, to Rex and Karina (Clay) Briney in Tomah.
Hope attended Tomah Middle School, where she was an honor student in the seventh grade. Her greatest love was horses, basketball and boys. She also enjoyed dance, choir, listening to music and watching NASCAR racing, especially Jeff Gordon. Hope was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends.

DeVere Robert Clay
TOMAH, Wis. — DeVere Robert Clay, 68, of Tomah passed away Friday, Oct. 12, 2007, in Madison as a result of carbon monoxide poisoning.
He was born Jan. 15, 1939, to Robert and Genevieve (Shutter) Clay in the town of Greenfield, Wis. He served in the United States Army.
He was united in marriage to Barbara Jean Draeger on Aug. 30, 1969, in Waukon, Iowa. DeVere spent his working career as a farmer and was dedicated to the draft horse industry. He was a member of the Clydesdale Breeders USA and the Polled Hereford Association. DeVere’s number one passion was educating people into the draft horse business. There was nothing DeVere and Barb enjoyed more than showing their draft horses, other than spending time with their children and grandchildren. He also enjoyed playing cards with friends and gardening.
He is survived by his first wife, Donna Meltesen of Tomah, and their children, Darcy (Sue) Clay of Warrens, Wis., Dawn (David) McInnis of Fall Creek, Wis., Dari (Junior) Bell of Wilton, Wis., and Darin Clay of Madison. He then married Barbara Draeger and is survived by their children, Tina (Doug) Miller of Tomah, Karina Clay of Tomah, and Corey (Kris Richards) Clay of Tomah; 21 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren, a brother, DeWell (Cindy) Clay of Wausau, Wis.; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Special mention, the extended draft horse family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Bob and Gen Clay; and a grandson, Robert Briney; and was accompanied in death by his wife, Barbara and granddaughters, Hope and Erin Briney.

Barbara Jean (Draeger) Clay
TOMAH, Wis. — Barbara Jean (Draeger) Clay, 57, of Tomah passed away Friday, Oct. 12, 2007, in Madison as a result of carbon monoxide poisoning.
She was born Sept. 17, 1950, in Galesville, Wis., to William and Leona (Dechant) Draeger.
She was united in marriage to DeVere Robert Clay in August 1969 in Waukon, Iowa. Barb was employed at Fort McCoy, Wis., with the Department of Defense. She was a member of the Clydesdale Breeders of USA and the Polled Hereford Association Union Steward. Barb was also a Green Bay Packers fanatic, she enjoyed playing cards with her friends and was also an active Internet user and created, designed and kept up her own Web page. She especially loved going shopping with her mom, Leona. There was nothing DeVere and Barb enjoyed more than showing their draft horses, other than spending time with their children and grandchildren.
She is survived by her parents, William and Leona Draeger; her children, Tina (Doug) Miller, Karina Clay and Corey (Kris Richards) Clay, all of Tomah; stepchildren, Darcy (Sue) Clay of Warrens, Wis., Dawn (David) McInnis of Fall Creek, Wis., Dari (Junior) Bell of Wilton, Wis., and Darin Clay of Madison; 21 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a sister, Mary (David) Reardon of Mosinee, Wis.; two brothers, William (Rosemary) Draeger and Daniel (Julie) Draeger, all of Tomah; aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews, and other relatives. Garry ‘Shiny’ M. Kreibich
LA CRESCENT, Minn. — Garry “Shiny” M. Kreibich of La Crescent died in his home on Saturday, Oct. 13, 2007.
He was born on Oct. 16, 1955, in La Crosse to Clarence and Lucille (Weiker) Kreibich. He married Marilyn E. Johnson on Oct. 11, 1985, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Hokah, Minn.
Garry worked at Trane Co. from 1980 to 2007, and valued the many friendships he developed over the years. Garry enjoyed hunting and fishing and had many mounts to show for it. Garry was proud of his cars, especially his 1968 Pontiac GTX and his 1978 Chevy Corvette. He loved to display his cars in local festivals and recently won “Best of Show” at the 2007 Holmen Kornfest. He also loved riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle and tinkering with his other three motorcycles. Garry was a considerate brother and son, never forgetting to call and wish you a happy birthday. He enjoyed grilling out and frying fish for Marilyn’s family. He loved to eat at Gramma Lu’s and received his “can fix anything” talents from his dad.
Garry will be missed by his family and many friends, especially Ed and Nick.
He is survived by his wife, Marilyn of La Crescent; his parents, Clarence and Lucille of La Crescent; two sisters, Kathy (Kerry) Brinkman of Dresbach Minn., and Debi (Jeff) Covey of La Crescent; four brothers, Mark Kreibich and Bill (Sandy) Kreibich, all of La Crescent, Paul Kreibich of Ann Arbor, Mich., and Tom (Leslie) Kreibich of La Crescent; brother-in-law, Steve Weisbrod of Rice Lake, Wis.; two sister-in-laws, Linda Hinkley of Holmen, Wis., and Lorraine (Robert) Seebauer of Onalaska, Wis.; a brother-in-law, Rick Johnson of New Jersey; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister, Jane Weisbrod.

Lyle L. Lapham
CALEDONIA, Minn. — Lyle L. Lapham, 75, of Caledonia died Saturday, Oct. 13, 2007, at his home.
Lyle was born in Caledonia to Grant and Mabel (Albee) Lapham in 1932, and was raised on their Portland Prairie family farm. Following one year of Agricultural School at the University of Minnesota, Lyle returned to Portland Prairie to farm with his dad.
In 1954, Lyle married Mary Ellen Billhorn of Manchester, Iowa; they continued farming after two years in the U.S. Army. In the 1960s, they became a licensed foster home.
Lyle grew interested in world hunger issues, and in 1976 was invited to the World Food Conference. That same year, Lyle toured the People’s Republic of China, representing American agriculture with 20 other farmers.
After Lyle and Mary Ellen moved to Caledonia in 1983, Lyle became an EMT for the Caledonia Ambulance Service and worked for Hiawatha Valley Mental Health as a case worker until retirement.
Lyle loved to travel and took advantage of many teaching opportunities abroad. From 1987-1989, through VOCA and USAID, he taught corn production in Côte d’Ivoire, West Africa, and dairy production in Tunisia. From 1998-2001, Lyle and Mary Ellen taught English in Wenzhou, China, and in 2002 taught in Hanzhou, China.
Lyle spent several years on the Land O’Lakes Board of Directors, and served as well on various local boards. He was a member of the Caledonia Masonic Lodge; a Shriner, Osman Temple, St. Paul; and a member of the Caledonia United Methodist Church. Lyle was an avid gardener and belonged to the Master Gardener program.
Lyle is survived by his wife, Mary Ellen; his sister, Eileen (Gilbert) Felton of Northfield, Minn.; his brother, Kent (Lois) Lapham of Russell, Kan.; his children, Joe (Jane) Hayes, Deborah (Charles) Wray, Loren (Carol) Lapham, Wesley (Carrie) Lapham and Steven (Lisa) Lapham, all of Caledonia, and Coleen (John) Pinkowski of Kirksville, Mo.; daughter-in-law, Sharen Lapham of Caledonia; 14 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today, Oct. 16, at McCormick Funeral Home in Caledonia, with a Masonic Service at 7 p.m. The funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 17, at Caledonia United Methodist Church. Pastor Mark Bengtson will officiate and burial will be in Portland Prairie Cemetery. Friends may also call one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday. Memorials are preferred.

George Gottfried Sauer
George Gottfried Sauer of La Crosse passed away October 14, 2007 at St. Joseph’s Rehabilitation Center.
He was born July 16, 1918, in La Crosse to Jacob and Mary (Fuchs) Sauer. He married Emma Wetsch at St. James Church in La Crosse on June 13, 1959.
Survivors include his wife, Emma; daughters, Julie (Brian) Vietri of Scottsdale, Ariz., Jackie (Milt) Schmida of La Crosse, and Jennie Sauer of Trempealeau, Wis.; and grandchildren, Elizabeth and Joseph Schmida.
George was preceded in death by his sister, Minnie Weiss; and brothers, Jacob, Bernard and Richard Sauer.
George worked as an accountant-office manager with WKTY-WSPL radio from 1951-1986. He served in the armed forces during World War II. George belonged to many organizations, including The National Red Arrow Club, VFW Post 52, American Legion, Catholic Order of Foresters Legion of Honor, Governor’s Guards, Caduceus Club and Holy Trinity Men’s Club.
A Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 17, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 1333 13th St. S., La Crosse. The Rev. Lawrence Berger will officiate. Visitation will be held one hour prior to Mass at the Church. Interment will be at Woodlawn Cemetery, La Crosse.

Betty Jane Scheck
Betty Jane Scheck, 69, of La Crosse passed away in her home on Sunday, Oct. 14, 2007.
She was born Feb. 25, 1938, in Waumundee, Wis., to Melvin and Adella (Knecht) Harm. Betty had worked briefly at St. Francis Medical Center in the dietary department. She then worked for 40½ years at Trane Company until her retirement March 1, 1998. Betty enjoyed trips to the casino, dogs, her flowers and gardening and was an avid reader. Betty was a wonderful mother, grandmother and sister and was loved by everyone who knew her.
She is survived by a son, Ricky (Lourdes) Scheck of Plano, Texas; a daughter, Rhonda (Randy) Neff of Genoa, Wis.; two grandchildren, Andrea and Gunnar Scheck of Plano; two sisters, Mary Lou (Roger) Menting of Arkansas, Wis., and Sherry Harm of Onalaska, Wis.; and a brother, Roger (Patricia) Harm of Fountain City, Wis.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Judy Persig; her ex-husband, Roger Scheck; and her dear cousin and lifelong playmate, Kay “Marge” Beier.

Vivian Silver
RANDON LAKE/LA CROSSE, Wis. — Vivian Silver, 89, a resident of Random Lake and formerly of La Crosse died Saturday, Oct. 13, 2007, in Random Lake.
She was born Aug. 23, 1918, in La Crosse to Otto and Belle (Stidiford) Bristow. Vivian attended Coleman Vocational School. She married Benjamin Silver on Oct. 2, 1943, in Caledonia, Minn. Vivian had worked at the La Crosse Rubber Mills, Exchange State Bank,
La Crosse Brush Co. and Farley Sausage Co. She was a longtime member of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, where she served as treasurer for the United Methodist Women for many years and played piano for the church. She was also a very experienced knitter and contributed many items to church bazaars. She will be very much missed by her children, and especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by a daughter, Sheila (Fred) Panke of Onalaska Wis.; a son, Thomas Silver of Random Lake; five grandchildren, Jeffery Panke, Kevin Panke, Tania (Ryan) Noll, Tina (Aaron) Bialzik and Tara Silver; 11 great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law, Grace Silver, Betty Silver and Dorothy Silver, all of Iowa; and her special dog friends, Mojo and Rascal. She was preceded in death by her husband Ben on March 7, 2000; her parents; and two brothers, Alvin and Thomas.

Clarence ‘Tommy’ M. Thompson
Clarence “Tommy” M. Thompson, 96, of La Crosse died Friday, Oct. 12, 2007, at Franciscan Skemp Healthcare in La Crosse.
He was born in Hills, Minn., on Oct. 7, 1911, to Theodore and Helmina (Peterson) Thompson. Early in life, Tommy moved to the Houston, Minn., area to work with Civilian Conservation Corps camps during the Depression Era. Later, he married Cora Traff and they moved to Sturgeon Bay, Wis., where he worked as a welder on the PT boats during World War II. Following the war, they moved back to the La Crosse area, where Tommy worked for Allis Chalmers as a steel fabricator.
He was a member of Prince Of Peace Lutheran Church in La Crescent, Minn.; a member of The Loyal Order Of Moose Lodge 1920, La Crosse; the Harry J. Olson Senior Center; and served as the mascot for the “Boot Scootin’ Grannies.”
Tommy is survived by his very special friend of many years, Shirley Heeter of La Crescent, Minn.; one daughter, Shirley (Bill) Meltz of Arkansas; one son, Richard (Jo) Thompson of Texas; one granddaughter, Cindy Venetis of Arizona; one great-granddaughter, Renee Venetis of Michigan; one great-grandson, Kirby Venetis of Arizona; one great-great-grandson, Mason Raymond of Michigan; two sisters, Ruby (Larry) Veland of Minnesota and Harriet (Harold) Bryan of Montana; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, five sisters and two brothers.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 17, at Prince Of Peace Lutheran Church in La Crescent, Minn. Pastor Michael Woods will officiate. Burial will follow in Silver Creek Cemetery, rural Houston, Minn. Friends may call at the church on Wednesday from 11 a.m. until time of services. Memorials may be directed to the church.

James Yeske
James Yeske, 85, died Saturday, Oct. 13, 2007, with his immediate family by his side.
He was born on April 19, 1922, to Charles and Emma “Nellie” (Amborn) Yeske in La Crosse. He married Rose Mary “Yoie” Yeske on Aug. 9, 1941, and celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in 2006. She died on April 21, and he wanted to be with her again.
Jim was a Sergeant in the U.S. Army during World War II, and was a member of Roy L. Vingers American Legion Post 52 of La Crosse. He worked at Norplex in La Crosse where he retired after over 35 years. Jim and his wife enjoyed belonging to the Relax-n-Campers Association and made many friends there. Jim especially loved to dance with Rose Mary. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and gardening, and also liked watching the Packers, Brewers and NASCAR on TV.
Jim is survived by his daughter, Karen (Steve Puent) Yeske; a son, David (Rhoda Lynch) Yeske; his grandchildren, Keri (Brian Larson) Ragner, Rick (Jodi) Ragner, Gerald (Trina) Yeske Jr., Heather Yeske, Shawn Yeske, Kevin Yeske and Faye Anne Yeske; his great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Marissa, Kaitlyn, Ericka, Alycia, Dustyn, Shawn Jr., Kevin Jr., Daniel, Harley and Gabriel; his daughter-in-law, Donna Yeske; a brother, Robert; and a sister, Harriet.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Gerald James Yeske; three grandchildren, Tommy Yeske, David B. Yeske and Kimberly Yeske; brothers, Harley, Harold Sr., Maynard, Merlin, Vilas and Spencer; sisters, Alice, Ruth, Mildred and Esther; a half-brother, Charles; and a daughter-in-law, Annabelle Yeske.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 18, at St. James the Less Catholic Church in La Crosse. The Rev. Roger Scheckel will officiate. Burial with military honors will take place in Mormon Coulee Memorial Park Cemetery, rural La Crosse. Friends may call at Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home of La Crosse on Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m. and at the church on Thursday from 12:30 p.m. until time of services. Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers.
