Student senators voted Nov. 8 to approve the proposal, which would charge incoming students higher tuition and use the added funds to hire more staff and increase enrollment.
Although the survey won’t close until Nov. 26, Student Sen. Eric Fuhrmann said about 1,500 survey responses have been received so far, and “preliminary results show students think it’s a good idea and to go forward with the plan,” Fuhrmann said.
When asked whether the proposal would make UW-L a stronger university, 77.5 percent of respondents answered yes, Chancellor Joe Gow said.
“It is not a scientific survey” Gow said. “But it is helpful that this many students were willing to take time out of their busy schedule to participate and give us their opinions of the plan, which appear to be very supportive.”
Final results of the survey will be presented at the Nov. 28 meeting of the student senate.
The senators will then make their case Dec. 7 to the Board of Regents, who will vote on the plan.
