Published - Saturday, December 01, 2007 Study: UW binge drinking down slightly but above national average MADISON, Wis. — A new study says binge drinking among University of Wisconsin System students has declined slightly but remains higher than the national average. The survey found that 54 percent of UW students admitted binge drinking at least once in the last two weeks. That’s down from 59 percent two years ago but above the national average of 44 percent. The survey defined binge drinking as consuming five or more alcoholic beverages in one sitting. The study also found a slight decrease in the consequences of drinking among students, such as missing class the next day or driving drunk. The survey of 15,000 undergraduate students has a margin of error of plus or minus one percentage point.
