" If there is anything funny here it might be, that with all the allies in this UWL money grab (including the Tribune) they continue to conduct the ongoing PR mantra. What is sad and funny at the same time is the taxpayers have long ago ignored them. As they smugly think they are making a difference changing people and opinions of people who have just plain given up. It will get much worse before it gets better. "

" NS - read the post again. Of course I am NOT in favor of doing what I proposed as another example of "two-tier"ing stuff. Your last post is exactly right and was exactly my point. I think you figured out that my post was not as you originally thought. "

" Did I hear this right? "The plan would allow a differential tuition charge for incoming students", "in which 2,298 students out of the total 8,295 undergraduate student body voted. Of that, 1,877 students supported the proposal and 421 opposed it." So they took votes of the people that would not have the raise in tuition? Then they waved it proudly, to confirm to whomever that they are on the right track? What did they expect? It is called, 'great, as long as it does not affect me', plain old greed, or screw your neighbor.

" TO: Moderate- You have to be a career government worker. "deduct a higher percentage of FICA withholding"? Maybe you could tell us all what 'they' have done with the employer 7.65% and the other same amount that employees have contributed has gone? That is the most ill conceived remark I have read on this blog, maybe ever! Will wait patiently for your specific answer to my question. "

" Can you imagine my surprise when I peered below the headline and saw the 'Tribune Editorial Board'? NOT!!! 1000 student expansion, tear down two housing units, look toward private housing, west Side of Campus, what to do with 400 displaced students, Satellite Parking? "well-thought-out plan"? "$6 million in cuts" Yes, the State Representatives delivered a blow to your funds. Need more money? Address expenditures like the 'Lacrosse Czar of Festivities' that UWL foots the bill for! Although you are not able to peer in that direction. Keep writing the same article, you are staring to look silly. "

WOW! At least 95 faculty and staff members and only 500 more students??? I now know what kind of 'growth' is important for UW-L...more state employees!

" A "two-tier" tuition schedule is not even close to a fair proposition. It is amazing to me that someone would even use this "survey" to support their Plan. I think UW-L is a great institution as I have 2 children who graduated from there. I also know about a half dozen Profs and think they are great people. So I am obviously not "anti UW-L". Another example of what we could do with a "two-tier" system would be to deduct a higher percentage of FICA withholding from anyone born after 1992. It would allow for more benefits for those who need it. But would anyone really consider that "fair". "

" I worked for many years at one these smaller UW campuses in the hard sciences....the Board of Regents tend to see schools like UW-L as something less than a 'real' university--only Madison fills the bill there. I considered that mere toffee-nosed snobbery at the time, but I see now that they are right in large measure: the more rigorous schools like Madison demand in two and a half years what the smaller schools demand in four years of undergraduate study (as I learned the hard way when I moved on to another Big Ten school for some advanced work in mathematics). UW-L is wrongly seen as a mere jock school; it needs to look at its PR regarding UW-L academic prowess. "
