It was particularly important that so many UW-L students participated in an online referendum concerning the proposal. We’re very proud of the fact that almost 2,300 students — more than 25 percent of our entire undergraduate student body — voted in the referendum. This demonstrates quite clearly how involved students wish to be in important university decisions, and we look forward to engaging even larger groups of students in future policy discussions.
Equally critical was the presence at the regents meeting of our area bipartisan legislative delegation. The citizens of our region are very fortunate to be represented by Reps. Mike Huebsch and Jennifer Shilling, and Sen. Dan Kapanke. Clearly, these three outstanding legislators are solidly committed to strengthening higher education in Wisconsin, a fact we hope future voters will remember.
Finally, on behalf of everyone at UW-L, I’d like to express our gratitude for the La Crosse Tribune’s extensive coverage and insightful editorials regarding our proposal.
Thanks to the Tribune’s strong interest, the citizens of our region were very well-informed on an important public policy matter.
