Delores L. Daffinson
ETTRICK, Wis. — Delores L. Daffinson, 90, of rural Ettrick died Sunday, Dec. 16, 2007, at her home.

She was born Nov. 16, 1917, in Galesville, Wis., to Lawrence and Nellie (Eng) Hammond. On Nov. 24, 1937, she married Edwin Daffinson at French Creek Lutheran Church Parsonage. He died Jan. 3, 1996.

Delores was a member of Living Hope Lutheran Church, Ettrick, and its WELCA.

She is survived by a son, Donald of Ettrick; two daughters, Janet Wallin and Nellie Thompson, both of Ettrick; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; a sister,

Elaine (Wendell) Stephan of Trempealeau, Wis.; a brother, John (Ona) Hammond of Onalaska, Wis.; and two sisters-in-law, Louise Hammond of Trempealeau and Tena Strouse of La Crosse.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Diane; a grandson, Mark; two great-grandsons, Donny and Rick; three sisters, Ila Mae, Marion and Grace; and two brothers, George and William.

Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 22, at Ettrick Public Cemetery, with the Rev. Kristin Wendland officiating. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 21, at Zwickey Funeral Homes, Galesville (Wis.) Chapel.

Donald G. Hoefke

Donald G. Hoefke, 88, of La Crosse died Sunday, Dec. 16, 2007, at Franciscan Skemp Medical Center in La Crosse.

He was born Jan. 30, 1919, in La Crosse to Gustive and Jane (Baker) Hoefke. He married Verna (Grodevant) on May 20, 1946, in Winona, Minn. She preceded him in death on Oct. 12, 1991. Donald retired from the Milwaukee Railroad on Jan. 1, 1979, after 36 years of employment. Donald enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He is survived by three sons, Donald (Gail) Hoefke, Ben (Rebecca) Hoefke and David (Carol) Hoefke, and one daughter, Donna (Tom) Payne. He is also survived by stepchildren; Edith Snow, Alyce Ziemann, Judy (Lloyd) Campbell, Mary (Jerry) CaCarri and John Small; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Verna; son, Gary; brothers, Bill, Oscar, Ben, Juilus, Walter and Albert; and sisters, Helen, Olive, Virginia, (twins) Julia and Mary and an infant sister.

Memorial services will be at 11:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 21, at Dickinson Family Funeral Home, 1425 Jackson St., La Crosse. The Rev. Scott Skogen will officiate and burial will be in Onalaska (Wis.) Cemetery at a later time. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.

Louise Laura (Bakken) Manke

WEST SALEM, Wis. — Louise Laura (Bakken) Manke went home to her eternal rest with the Lord on Dec. 17, 2007. She passed peacefully in her sleep at her home in West Salem at age 88 with her daughter by her side. Louise was a great blessing to her family and friends and will be missed with fond loving memories.

Louise was born Sept. 15, 1919, to Elmer and Minnie (Krause) Bakken in Genoa, Wis. She was baptized at home on Nov. 12, 1919. She was confirmed in her Christian faith on May 13, 1934, at St. Peter’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Chaseburg, Wis. Louise married Earl Manke on June 16, 1943, at St. Peter’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Chaseburg. They were blessed with 64 years of marriage. Earl was called home to the Lord on Oct. 17, 2007.

God blessed them with four children, Barbara (Ed) Shamburg of Harveyville, Kan., Sandra (Michael) McGrath of Las Altos Hills, Calif., and Eric Manke and Sonja (Dale) Young, both of West Salem; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Louise is also survived by two brothers, Edward (Beulah) Bakken of Onalaska, Wis., and Richard (Donna) Bakken of La Crosse; a sister, Esther Sheehy of Fort Thomas, Ky.; and a brother-in-law, William Manke of Onalaska.

In addition to her husband, Louise was preceded in death by her parents; a sister-in-law, Gretchen Manke; and a brother-in-law, Robert Sheehy.

Louise was a loving wife, adoring mother and cherished friend. A funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 21, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, W3565 CTH M, Barre Mills, Wis. The Rev. Andrew Schultz will officiate. There will be a visitation will be from 12:30 until 1:30 p.m. at the church. A fellowship luncheon will follow the service in the church basement. Louise loved to have coffee with her friends. A private family burial will be held at St. John’s Lutheran Church Cemetery.

Jostad-Jandt Funeral Home, West Salem, Wis., is assisting with arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.

A special thanks to the Rev. Andrew Schultz for bringing the Word of God to Louise’s home for the past several years, when she could no longer attend St. John’s. Her faith in God sustained her and her prayers were answered to die peacefully at home.

Alvin ‘Dubie’ L. McKenzie

Alvin “Dubie” L. McKenzie, 96, of La Crosse died Monday, Dec. 17, 2007, at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse.

He was born Feb. 20, 1911, in La Crosse to Charles and Minnie (Kimball) McKenzie. He retired from Trane Co. in 1976, after 46 years of employment. He enjoyed golfing and bowling and was a member of the 25-Year Club at Trane.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret (Hoffman); a daughter, Linda (Michael Gilbertson) Szydel of Sparta, Wis.; grandchildren, Matthew (Donna Heath) Szydel of Loyal, Wis., Brittney Szydel of Galesville, Wis., and Chad Gilbertson of Sparta, Wis.; two sisters-in-law, Beverly McKenzie of Kenosha, Wis., and Fran McKenzie of La Crosse.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Gladys; two brothers, Harold and George; and an infant son, David.

Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Mount Calvary Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1411 16th St. S.,

La Crosse. The Rev. Robert Wassermann will officiate. Friends may call the church on Friday from 10 a.m. until the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Mount Calvary Evangelical Lutheran Church.

Becky (Rapraeger) Wolf

RIO RANCHO, N.M. — Becky (Rapraeger) Wolf, 58, of Rio Rancho passed away Friday, Dec. 14, 2007, at Presbyterian Hospital in Albuquerque, N.M.

She was born in Beloit, Wis., on June 6, 1949, to Theodore and Genevieve (Sime) Rapraeger. She married Gary Wolf on Sept. 30, 1972, in West Salem, Wis. He served in the U.S. Air Force, and they lived in New Mexico for many years.

She loved all animals. She loved to read spiritual things. Her favorite saying was “Let the Lord take care of you, and everything will be okay.”

She is survived by her husband, Gary of Rio Rancho, N.M.; her mother, Genevieve of Readstown, Wis.; her brother, Steven (Kathy) Rapraeger of Holmen, Wis.; two sisters, Simone Baker of Viroqua, Wis., and Debbie (Steve Jensen) Rapraeger of West Salem, Wis.; her mother-in-law, Mary Wolf of La Crescent, Minn.; one brother-in-law, Terry (Jill) Wolf of La Crescent; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.

She was preceded in death by her father, Theodore; her brother-in-law, Harry Baker; and her father-in-law, Al Wolf.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 21, at Peace Lutheran Church in Readstown, Wis. Pastor LaVerne Larson will officiate and burial will be in Readstown Cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Friday from 10 a.m. until time of services.

Memorials may be given to ASPCA.org (American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) or one’s local humane society.

Richard D. Strelow

GALESVILLE, Wis. — Richard D. Strelow, 75, of Galesville died Monday, Dec. 17, 2007, at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse.

He was born Oct. 26, 1932, in La Crosse, to Reinhold and Myrtle (Miller) Strelow. On June 20, 1953, he married Rose Mitley. He retired after 36 years with Trane Co.

He is survived by his wife, Rose; three daughters, Rose (Harold) Simon of Holmen, Wis., Kim (Kevin) Romskog of Pilot Point, Texas, and Susan (special friend Gary Horstman) Anderson of West Salem, Wis.; a son, Richard (Julie) Strelow of Columbia, S.C.; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Carol Thill of La Crosse; and two brothers, Duane (Julie) Strelow of Galesville and Daryl Strelow of Texas.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, William and Gerald Strelow.

In accordance with his wishes, Richard will be cremated and no services will be held at this time.

Ronald P. McGrath

Ronald P. McGrath, 62, of La Crosse passed away Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2007, at his home. A complete obituary will be provided by Dickinson Family Funeral Home.

Pamela E. Decorah Schauls

BLACK RIVER FALLS/TOMAH, Wis. — Pamela E. Decorah Schauls, 57, of Black River Falls and formerly of Tomah died Monday, Dec. 17, 2007, at Country Terrace in Black River Falls. Funeral services will be at noon Thursday at Buswell Funeral Home in Black River Falls. Burial will be at Blue Wing Cemetery in rural Tomah. Family and friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. today and from 11 a.m. until services Thursday, both at the funeral home.

Mae J. Overson

STODDARD, Wis. — Mae J. Overson, 92, of Stoddard died Monday Dec. 17, 2007, at Hillview Health Care Center in La Crosse.

She was born Sept. 15, 1915, in Hamburg Township, Vernon County, Wis., to Amund and Alma (Hagen) Johnson. Mae married Thurman Overson on Nov. 22, 1935, in Waukon, Iowa. The couple farmed their married life in rural Stoddard. Thurman died Nov. 18, 1974. Mae moved to Stoddard in 1975 and worked at Rocky’s Supper Club. She was a member of the Lower Coon Valley Lutheran Church, where she was active in the WELCA group and was a past member of the Stoddard Mission Circle. She enjoyed euchre, fishing, knitting and crafts. Mae cherished her grandchildren and spending time with her family.

Survivors include four children, Lorraine (Harry) Davidson of Chaseburg, Wis., Marjorie Helgeson (Harry West) of West Salem, Wis., Raymond (Gloria) Overson of Wever, Iowa, and Dennis (Nancy) Overson of Lake Mills, Wis.; 10 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Irene Feverhelm and Gladys Overson; and two sons-in-law, Cletus Helgeson and Ron Manske.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday Dec. 20, at Lower Coon Valley Lutheran Church. Pastor Donald Fox will officiate, with burial in the church cemetery. Friends may call today from 5 to 7 p.m. at Seland Funeral Home in Coon Valley and at the church on Thursday from 10 a.m. until service time. Memorials may be given to the Lower Coon Valley Lutheran Church.

The family would like to express sincere gratitude for the wonderful care by her Hillview caregivers/friends and also a special thanks to Pastor Donald Fox for his many visits and prayers.

Mary ‘Mayme’ C. Quinn

PRAIRIE DU CHIEN, Wis. — Mary “Mayme” Quinn, 93, of Prairie du Chien passed away Monday, Dec. 17, 2007, at Prairie du Chien Memorial Hospital. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:30 a.m. Friday at St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church, with burial in Calvary Cemetery, both in Prairie du Chien. Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Garrity Funeral Home in Prairie du Chien, where there will be a 4 p.m. rosary and a 7 p.m. wake scripture. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to American Cancer Society or the Prairie du Chien Hospice Program.

Cecil L. Ziegler

WATERTOWN, Wis. — Cecil L. Ziegler, 70, of Watertown entered eternal life on Friday, Dec. 14, 2007, surrounded by his family at Watertown Memorial Hospital, after a valiant battle with cancer.

He was born Feb. 13, 1937, in Sparta, Wis., the son of Edward and Celia (Harwick) Ziegler. He was a graduate of Sparta High School. He was employed as a warehouse man for Waukesha Centrifugal for many years and retired in 1996. He raised and showed horses for many years. He was an avid hunter and outdoorsman. He loved woodworking and spending time with his family.

He is survived by one son, Jeff (Kelly) Ziegler of Watertown; one daughter, Lisa (Pedro) Aguero of Waterloo; four grandchildren, Jennifer (Luke) Latzke, Alexandria, Steven and Julio; one brother, Leslie (Jane) Ziegler of Sparta, Wis.; and also a nephew and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and one son, Scott, in 1976.

Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 22, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Watertown with the Rev. Terry Larson officiating. Pederson Funeral Home of Watertown is serving the family.
