Betty Ann (Jennings) Gander
SOLDIERS GROVE, Wis. — Betty Ann (Jennings) Gander went to be with the Lord on Sunday, Dec. 30, 2007, surrounded by her family.
She was born Dec. 17, 1930, in rural Gays Mills. She graduated from Gays Mills High School. She married Melvern Gander on June 26, 1947. They raised seven children on their dairy farm in Soldiers Grove, where they continued to live for the next 52 years. For the past five years, Betty has resided at Parkview Manor in Viroqua, Wis., where she cherished the companionship of her many close friends.
Betty is survived by her seven children, Gary Gander, Minnesota, Kathy (Gander) and Guillermo Hoyos, La Crosse, Peggy (Gander) and Doug Schoenfeld, Holmen, Wis., Jane (Gander) and Bill Bauman, DeWitt, Iowa, David Gander, Soldiers Grove, Donald and Donna Gander, Columbia, Mo., and Joan Premo, Columbus, Wis. She is also survived by her 17 grandchildren and her 17 great-grandchildren (the 18th great-grandchild will be born in February). Her surviving siblings include Mr. and Mrs. Roderick Jennings, Reedsburg, Wis., Mrs. Patricia J. (Jennings) Moore, La Crosse, Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Jennings, Muscoda, Wis., and Mr. and Mrs. Neil Jennings, Onalaska, Wis.
Betty is preceded in death by her brother, Richard Jennings; her father, Russell Jennings; her sister, Margaret (Jennings) Lester; her grandson, Brent Gander; her mother, Anna Belle (Potts) Jennings and her life-long beloved partner, Melvern A. Gander.
Betty Gander had a long and loving life with her family and close friends. Although, she will be greatly missed, her family will continue to live her contented legacy of “counting our blessings” and “looking for the silver lining inside of every cloud in life.”
Funeral arrangements are being made through Sime Funeral Home in Readstown, Wis. Visitation will be held at the North Clayton United Methodist Church (on County X off Hwy. 14) in rural Soldiers Grove from 4 until 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2008, and from 10 until 11 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 3. Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 3, at the same church. Burial services will follow in the North Clayton Cemetery. ONALASKA, Wis. — Norma Halmrast, 78, died in the Onalaska Care Center on Sunday, Dec. 30, 2007. Funeral services will be after the New Year holiday and will be announced by the Dickinson Family Funeral Homes.

Mary Louise Kimmet, 83, of La Crosse, died Saturday, Dec. 29, 2007. Funeral services are tentatively set for Thursday and will be announced by the Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home of La Crosse.

FERRYVILLE, Wis. — Alice Kleppe, 98, formerly of rural Ferryville, a resident at Sannes Skogdalen Nursing Home, Soldiers Grove, Wis., died Saturday evening, Dec. 29, 2007. Complete funeral arrangements will be announced later by the Thorson-Reetz Funeral Home, Viroqua.
Marjorie A. Martinson
Marjorie A. Martinson, 72, of La Crosse, died Saturday, Dec. 29, 2007, at Hillview Health Care Center.
She was born Oct. 14, 1935, in La Crosse to Herman and Ida (Almos) Hicke. She married Donald Martinson on July 28, 1962, in La Crosse. Margie had worked at the Company Store as a seamstress for over 25 years. In her spare time she enjoyed knitting and crocheting.
She is survived by her husband, Donald; her children, Robert David Christenson of La Crosse, Patrick E. Christenson of La Crosse, Nancy Ida Christenson of La Crosse, Rebecca Lee Christenson of Wisconsin Dells, Wis., and Michael Duane Martinson of La Crosse; three grandchildren, Travis Christenson, Amanda (Marquis) Patton and Raven Thienes; two great-grandchildren, Maddison Christenson and Mikayla Patton; two sisters, Mavis Koelbl of La Crosse and Donna Finch of West Salem, Wis.; and one brother, Kermit Hicke of La Crosse.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Eileen LaPoint; three brothers, Pern Hicke, Argyle Hicke and Blaine Hicke.
Private family services will be held. The Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home of La Crosse is assisting the family.
