A blowing snow advisory is in effect today for southeast Minnesota and northeast Iowa, where gusty winds are expected to whip Thursday’s snow into possible whiteout conditions. Winds could also blow snow back onto roadways.
Lows are expected to be around minus 10 degrees tonight. Temperatures will struggle to climb above zero Saturday before plunging to a low of 15 to 20 below zero.
Sunday should be a little warmer for the start of Winter Rec-Fest. The La Crosse area high is expected to be around 5 degrees.
Viroqua’s Frosty Five Winterfest postponed
Viroqua’s revamped Frosty Five Winterfest, which was set for Saturday, has been postponed due to arctic temperatures in the forecast.
Dan Marko, manager of the Viroqua Memorial Healthcare Wellness Center, which is hosting Recfest in conjunction with the city of Viroqua Park and Recreation Department, said the event has been rescheduled for Feb. 9, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
“It’s just going to be too doggone cold, so we’re rescheduling it,” Marko said.
Recfest is to be held at Viroqua’s Park Bowl and include a 5-K run and treasure walk, “Frosty Cross” cycle-cross race, sledding, ice carving, ice skating, tug-o-war and snow castle construction. Marko said all of those events are still being included on Feb. 9.
