The Eagles defeated Augsburg 26-12 at the NWCA Duals on Jan. 13.
Augsburg jumped out to a 20-0 advantage in winning the first five matches, before the Eagles got back-to-back victories from Tim Palmer (165) and Josh Chelf (174). Palmer and Chelf are both ranked No. 1 in NCAA Division III at their weight classes are both 28-3 on the season.
The victory gives Chelf a 141-24 career record and moved into second place all time in victories for UW-L.
“We came out a little flat at the start and lost some close matches,” UW-L coach Dave Malecek said. “I told the team after the dual we need to regroup and get ready for the WIAC and NCAA Division III championships.
“This gut-check time for us to go up against Augsburg. We need to bring good competition in, that’s something we haven’t done a lot.”
