The four — Jack Curtis, Carl Foster, John Porcari and Brian Udermann — will speak on topics ranging from motivation and exercise as medicine to fitness gadgets and health myths.
The series is being held in conjunction with Heart Month to promote the American College of Sports Medicine’s Exercise is Medicine program, which is designed to encourage Americans to incorporate physical activity and exercise into their daily routine and specifically calls on doctors to prescribe exercise to their patients.
“I look at this series as a community service,” said Udermann, associate professor of exercise and sport science.
Porcari, professor of exercise and sport science, said people can learn the latest about fitness and exercise. “It’s information you can take home and work into your lifestyle,” Porcari said.
The series begins Tuesday with Jack Curtis, professor emeritus of health education/promotion, talking about motivation for change. Curtis has worked on motivational issues with Major League Baseball teams.
All presentations are from 6 to 7 p.m. in the Cleary Alumni and Friends Center. Other talks are:
