George W. Fray Sr.
GALESVILLE, Wis. George W. Fray Sr., 74, of Galesville passed away peacefully with his wife and daughter by his side early Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2008, in his home.
He was born March 9, 1933, in Chippewa Falls, Wis., to Mabel Fray and was raised by his grandparents, Ira and Clara (DeYoung) Fray. He married Deborah Strauss on Oct. 31, 1977.
George joined the U.S. Navy in 1951 and served during the Korean War. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and camping with his family in Hayward, Wis.
Survivors are his wife, Deborah; daughter, Lori; son, George W. Fray II; and a daughter, Debra Ward, and two grandchildren from a previous marriage.
He was preceded in death by a son, George W. Fray III; his mother, Mabel Fray; grandparents, Ira and Clara (DeYoung) Fray; and a granddaughter from his previous marriage.
Per George’s wishes, there will be no services. His wife and daughter will bury his cremains at a later date in Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis.

WEST SALEM, Wis. Ernest “Gene” E. Motes, 72, of West Salem died Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2008, at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Presbyterian Church of West Salem. Burial with military rites will be in Neshonoc Cemetery. Mark Phillip Dawson
PRIOR LAKE, Minn. Mark Phillip Dawson, 48, of Prior Lake found peace in the arms of the Lord on Saturday, Jan. 26, 2008. Mark waged a courageous battle with oral cancer.
Mark was born to Phillip and Marlene Dawson on Dec. 12, 1959, and grew up in La Crescent, Minn. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. Mark was the loving husband of Connie (Czechowicz) Dawson and the proud father of Zachary and Brett. For the past 18 years, Mark devoted his professional life to Best Buy Co. Mark was a whole-hearted fan of the Green Bay Packers.
In addition to Connie, Zachary and Brett, Mark is survived by his family, Phillip and Marlene Dawson, Paul Dawson, Todd Dawson and John and Anna Dawson, and John’s children, Cody and Riley, and their mother Stacy Dawson. He is lovingly survived by his beloved mother-in-law, Avis Czechowicz, and Connie’s family, Larry and Maza Czechowicz, Ross, Heather; John and Lynn Berge, Maren; Rick and Sue Boyer, Tracy (Brian), Cary (Jason) Aaron (Lisa); Jim and Kim Czechowicz, Dale; Steve and Sandy Ahrens, Lane, Brent; Brian Czechowicz, Cassie; Lisa and Troy Anderson and Samantha, Hunter. Mark is reunited in heaven with his grandparents, Truman and Evelyn Bjelland and Ray and Margaret Dawson; and
his father-in-law, Frank Czechowicz.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, at Shepherd of the Lake Lutheran Church, 3611 North Berens Road NW, Prior Lake. A visitation will be held one hour prior to services. The family requests no flowers. Memorials are appreciated to the Mark Dawson Family Fund at any US Bank or to Shepherd of the Lake Lutheran Church.
Gerald L. Anderegg
ETTRICK, Wis. Gerald L. Anderegg, 64, of rural Ettrick died on Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2008, in his home.
Gerald was born on March 8, 1943, in Whitehall, Wis., to Chester and Myrinne (Hanson) Anderegg. He married Nancy Steen on April 2, 1966, at Elk Creek Lutheran Church in rural Osseo, Wis.
Gerald was employed with Stellar Mold & Tool Inc. in Galesville, Wis. Gerald was a member of French Creek Lutheran Church in rural Ettrick and the National Guard.
Gerald enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and gunsmithing.
Gerald is survived by his wife, Nancy; his parents, Chester and Myrinne Anderegg of Blair, Wis.; three children, Scott (Cindy) Anderegg of Augusta, Wis., Stacey (Chad) Janssen of Eau Claire, Wis., and Steve Anderegg of Onalaska, Wis.; six grandchildren, Taylor, Bailey and Alyssa Anderegg, and Chelsea, Maximus and Tauna Janssen; and a brother, Roger (Lana) Anderegg of Blair.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, at French Creek Lutheran Church, with burial in the church cemetery, both in rural Ettrick. Pastor Roger Grow will officiate. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Jack Funeral Home in Blair, Wis., and also one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday.
Dorothy R. Paul Gudie
PLYMOUTH/LA CROSSE, Wis. Dorothy R. Paul Gudie, 93, of 740 Tallgrass Lane, Plymouth, passed away unexpectedly early Monday, Jan. 28, 2008, at her home.
She was born on Jan. 19, 1915, in La Crosse, a daughter of the late Frank and Mary Hinytzke Banasik. She attended Holy Cross Catholic Grade School and Aquinas High School. On Dec. 5, 1936, Dorothy married Roy Paul in La Crosse. He preceded her in death on Jan. 19, 1985. In November 1985, Dorothy married Ed Gudie. He preceded her in death on Jan. 19, 1994.
She was a devoted wife and grandmother. Dorothy’s love for her family is a lesson for all of us to remember. Her arms were always open for a hug and a kiss. She added a measure of comfort and joy to our lives that will never be replaced. Dorothy will be sadly missed but also lovingly remembered. Mom and Dad are together again. May they rest in peace.
Survivors include three sons, Donald (Elaine) Paul of Indian Harbor Beach, Fla., Gerald (Carol) Paul of Evans, Ga., and Tom Paul of Plymouth, eight grandchildren: Laura (Chris) Reed of Boston, Mike (Lisa) Paul of Dallas, Kevin Paul of Boston, Tonya Paul of Jessop, Ga., Tammy (Michael) Steinmeyer of Evans, Ga., Kristin Paul of Milwaukee, Nicholas Paul of Plymouth and Kelsey Paul of Madison; and six great-grandchildren, with one on the way. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Dorothy was preceded in death by one sister, Irene Hinds.
Following Dorothy’s wishes, there will be no visitation or viewing. Cremation has taken place, and inurnment will be in the Catholic Cemetery on Losey Boulevard in La Crosse.
A funeral Mass will take place at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 1, at Mary, Mother of the Church Parish at St. Thomas More Catholic Church in La Crosse. Father David Kunz, pastor of the church, will officiate.

Alvin E. Guenther
ARCADIA, Wis. Alvin E. Guenther, 66, of Arcadia died Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2008, at Franciscan Skemp Healthcare Medical Center in Arcadia.
He was born April 23, 1941, in Arcadia to Albert and Irene (Pampuch) Guenther Sr. On July 14, 1962, Alvin married Joan Schank at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Arcadia. He farmed his entire life.
Although his health prevented him from hunting, Alvin remained an avid lover of the outdoors and especially enjoyed watching whitetail deer from his van or sunroom and loved when the eagles were overhead. He was a member of Holy Family Parish and the Knights of Columbus. He was also a member of the Farm Bureau and Sportsman’s Club and served as president of the Arcadia Co-op.
He is survived by his wife, Joan of Arcadia; four children, Kevin (Karmen Bishop) of Ettrick, Wis., and their children, Benjamin and Brandon, Mary Horman of Holmen, Wis., and her children, Hannah and Guenther, Brenda (Ron Glass) Przybylla of Arcadia and their children, Katie and Joshua, and Cindy (Patrick) Lisowski of Arcadia and their children, Logan, Seth and Kaden; two sisters, Judeen (Melvin) Berg of Arcadia and Charleen (William) Klink of Fountain City, Wis.; and one brother, Albert (Janice) Guenther Jr. of Fountain City.
Preceding Alvin in death were one brother, Duane; and one nephew, Travis Klink.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 1, at Holy Family Parish, Arcadia, with Father Michael Klos officiating. Burial will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Arcadia. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Holy Family Parish, where there will be a 7 p.m. prayer service. They may also call from 1:30 to 2 p.m. Friday at the church.
