Maude A. Richmond
DAKOTA, Minn. — Maude A. Richmond, 94, of Dakota went to her heavenly home Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2008, at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center, La Crosse.
She was born in New Hartford Township, rural Dakota, on May 11, 1913, to William and Ida (Dodge) Richmond. She worked for many years at Northern Engraving in La Crosse, and then worked for Lake Center Switch in Winona, Minn., for many years until her retirement.
Maude loved the outdoors, and also enjoyed fishing and traveling in her free time. She was a longtime member of Dakota Riverside United Methodist Church.
Maude is survived by 14 nieces and three nephews and their families. She was preceded in death by one sister, Lily Beach; three brothers, Edward, Charles and Richard Richmond; and a special friend and companion, Frank Taylor.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, at Dakota Riverside United Methodist Church. The Rev. Linda Grounds will officiate. Burial will follow in the Bush Cemetery near Ridgeway, Minn. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home of La Crescent, Minn., and from 10 a.m. until the time of services Saturday at the church. Marilynn Rose Wagner
Marilynn Rose Wagner, 70, of La Crosse passed away peacefully Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2008, at Bethany St. Joseph Care Center, La Crosse.
She was born in La Crosse on June 9, 1937, the daughter of LaVern and Eleanor (Amundson) Wagner. She was baptized on Aug. 29, 1937, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in La Crosse, and confirmed on May 18, 1952, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in La Crosse. Marilynn married Ronald R. Roberts in 1954 in La Crosse, and they later divorced.
She is survived by one daughter, Vicki (Jed) Riddell of Redmond, Ore.; two sons, Randy (Susan) Roberts of La Crosse and Mark (Lynn) Roberts of Onalaska, Wis.; grandchildren, Amanda, Kristina, Miranda, Jennifer, Justin and Jed Jr.; great-grandchildren, Kendra, Zachary and Wyatt; two sisters, Janice Inda and Judy Wagner; two nieces, Bonnie Seidel and Carleen Thurston; and three nephews, Steve, Jerry and Scott Seidel. She was preceded in death by her parents.
In accordance with Marilynn’s wishes, she will be cremated and a private memorial service will be held for friends and family. Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home of La Crosse is assisting the family.
Sister Charlene Dernbach, FSPA
Sister Charlene Dernbach, Franciscan Sister of Perpetual Adoration, 101, died Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2008, at Villa St. Joseph. La Crosse.
Sister Charlene was born to Charles and Anna (Ziemet) Dernbach on Sept. 3, 1906, in Wausau, Wis. She entered St. Rose Convent in 1924, and professed vows in 1928. Entering the field of education, Sister Charlene taught for 31 years in parochial schools in Iowa and Wisconsin. For the next 36 years she served at Villa St. Joseph in various positions: parish organist, sacristan, substitute teacher, occupational therapist, gift shop and dining room manager. She retired at the Villa in 1994.
Sister Charlene is survived by her Franciscan Community and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and nine brothers: Harold Charles, Bernard, Rupert, Ambrose, Anthony, Lawrence, Norbert and John.
Friends may call after 3:15 p.m. today at St. Rose Convent. A prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. today in Mary of the Angels Chapel. The Rev. Thomas O’Neill, Viterbo University chaplain, will preside at the Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, Feb. 8, at 10 a.m. in Mary of the Angels Chapel. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Catholic Cemetery, La Crosse.

Jeffrey Dean Ellingson
CEDAR FALLS, Iowa — Jeffrey Dean Ellingson, 59, of Cedar Falls died at his home on Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2008.
He was born Nov. 30, 1948, in Spring Grove, Minn., the son of Alden E. and Luetta Mae (Ellestad) Ellingson.
Jeff graduated from Decorah (Iowa) High School in 1967 and Waldorf College, Forest City, Iowa, in 1969. He attended Brown Institute in Minneapolis and received his degree as a chief engineer in radio station work. In 1971, he graduated from Luther College in Decorah majoring in speech and history.
Jeff married Susan Lynn Arneson on Jan. 27, 1973, at First Lutheran Church in Decorah.
Survivors include his wife, Susan of Cedar Falls; three sons, Brandon Ellingson of Charlotte, Iowa, and Jon and James Ellingson, both of Cedar Falls; one daughter, Jennifer Ellingson of Cedar Falls; and three brothers, Darryl (Terry) Ellingson of Manchester, N.H., David (Shelley) Ellingson of Hokah, Minn., and Jay (Kari) Ellingson of Holmen, Wis.
Jeff was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 8, at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home in Cedar Falls. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home. Thomas J. Chojnacki
Thomas J. Chojnacki, 49, of La Crosse passed away Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2008, at his home.
He was born July 15, 1958, in Milwaukee to Henry and Karen (Steber) Chojnacki. Tom attended Eleva-Strum (Wis.) Central High School and later attended Western Wisconsin Technical College in La Crosse.
On April 24, 1982, he married Michelle Kern in Eleva. Tom was employed for many years as a long-distance truck driver and then drove regionally for a La Crosse company until he became ill in November 2007. He loved fishing, boating and playing with his grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, Michelle, he is survived by his daughter, Sarah (Jason) Pierce of La Crosse; son, Jason Chojnacki of Onalaska, Wis.; grandsons, Aiden Pierce and Anson Chojnacki; stepfather, Donald Hoelzel of Eleva; brothers, David (Pat) Chojnacki of Eau Claire, Wis., and James Chojnacki of Cannon Falls, Minn.; and sisters, Jill (Clayton) Hoelzel-Landsteiner of Northfield, Minn., and Amy (Jeff) Belmore of Sheboygan, Wis. Tom is further survived by his father, Henry Chojnacki; brothers, Peter and Michael; sisters, Cindy and Laurie; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother and a younger sister, Melissa.

Elizabeth Lillian (Schoen) McFarland
PARKVILLE, Mo. — Elizabeth Lillian (Schoen) McFarland, 65, of Parkville passed away the evening of Monday, Feb. 4, 2008, after a long battle with Crohn’s and liver disease.
She was born Jan. 6, 1943, in La Crosse.
She leaves behind Ed, her loving husband of 44 years; daughter, Kerrie Riley of Parkville and her two children, Clay and Kori; son, Joe McFarland and his wife, Kelley of Trimble, Mo., and their two sons, Justin and Jake; son, Michael McFarland and his wife, Rhea, of Kansas City, Mo., and their son, Ethan James; and son, Dan McFarland of Kansas City. Also surviving are Faye, husband of Hilary; Francis, husband of Catherine; Gerald and wife, Diana; Richard and wife, Jeanette; Walter and wife, Sharon; Russell and wife, Jean; Gregory and wife, Bonnie; and Barbara and husband, Alan; hundreds of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great- nephews, and great-great-nieces and great-greatnephews.
She was preceded in death by her father, John Schoen; mother, Lillian Grosskoph Schoen; sister, Hilary; sisters Dorothy, Catherine, and Marilyn; two infant twin sisters; and brother-in-laws Wilbert and Lyle.
She attended St. Joseph Cathedral Elementary School in La Crosse and graduated with the class of 1960 from Aquinas High School in La Crosse.
Despite her health battles, Liz managed to be a wife to the husband whom she loved and cherished, and a mother to her children, upon whom she bestowed great love and sense of family. Her accomplishments as a mother will continue to shine upon the next generation who she taught us to raise.
Her grandchildren were the light of her life, and each of them were loved and blessed with her presence in their own unique, special way.
We love you and miss you, but you will forever live in our hearts and memories.

Jodie Lynne Zebell
HOLMEN/MOUNT HOREB, Wis. — Jodie Lynne Zebell, 31, of Holmen passed away Sunday evening, Feb. 3, 2008, at the Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center, La Crosse.
She was born in Madison on Jan. 11, 1977, to John and Jean (Lampman) Jones. Jodie attended school in Mount Horeb until the seventh grade when she moved to Florida. She graduated from Central High School in Spring Hill, Fla., in 1995. After graduation, she returned to Wisconsin to attend the University of Wisconsin-Madison X-ray technology program, graduating in 1998.
Jodie married Scott Zebell on July 31, 1999, at St. Joseph the Workman Cathedral in La Crosse. Jodie took great pride in her work in mammography at the Norma J. Vinger Center for Breast Care at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center. She loved decorating her new home, scrapbooking, traveling and most of all spending time with her family and friends. Her greatest joys were her children, Allison, 7, and Carson, 2.
Jodie is survived by her husband, Scott; her children; her mother, Jean Lampman Jones (Doug Anderson) of Spring Hill; her father, John (Mary) Jones of Barneveld, Wis.; her grandfather, William Jones of Dodgeville, Wis.; her sister, Lisa (Brian) Eckel and nephew Tyler Burkhalter of Madison; her brother, Scott (Tina) Jones, niece Ashley and nephews Joseph and Jayson of Lancaster, Wis.; her aunts, Linda Jo (Gayle) Bostwick of Naples, Fla., and Cathy Hawkins of San Antonio; her father and mother-in-law, Gary (Alice) Zebell of La Crosse; and her brother-in-law, Brad Zebell of La Crosse. Jodie is also survived by many cousins and dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her grandmothers, Darlene Lampman and Mildred Jones, and her uncles, Joe Lampman and Jan Lampman.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, at Holmen Lutheran Church, 228 Morris St., Holmen. Pastors Glenn Borreson and Dan Henderson will officiate. Visitation and fellowship will follow the services.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the children’s college fund.
