Published - Thursday, February 14, 2008 La Crosse County Board primary candidates A primary vote will be held Tuesday to sort out candidates for La Crosse County Board in Districts 13 and 25. District 13 is on La Crosse’s near South Side along the Mississippi River. District 25 is on French Island in the town of Campbell. The Tribune asked all six candidates to fill out a questionnaire on 10 issues, including property taxes, the jail addition, the county administrator’s contract and the comprehensive plan. Occupation: Labor market analyst/economist, state of Wisconsin Political experience: None Personal statement: “La Crosse County needs board members well versed in economic development and economic processes, and I will be the board member who brings such experience and training to the board. Jobs and economic development are going to become even more critical concerns as we move into an uncertain economy.” Patrick Scheller Age: 51 Address: 2612 S. Seventh St. Occupation: Vice president and manager of the La Crosse office of Fortress Bank Political experience: None Personal statement: “I want to get involved in shaping the future of La Crosse County.” Thomas A. Thompson Age: 59 Address: 2670 S. Seventh St. Occupation: Retired from Thrifty Drug Stores, Los Angeles Political experience: Member of La Crosse Harbor Commission Personal statement: “I would like to serve on the La Crosse County Board to have a say on issues dealing with La Crosse County.” Carl Viner Age: 53 Address: 2418 S. 13th St. Occupation: Business owner-operator Political experience: None. Personal statement: “I am running to represent the 13th District in a fiscally responsible manner while promoting responsible growth and positive change.” LA CROSSE COUNTY BOARD District 25 Terry Erickson Age: 58 Address: 1924 Nakomis Ave. Occupation: Retired executive director, Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater La Crosse Political experience: Western Technical College District board member Personal statement: “As executive director of the Boys and Girls Clubs, I always thought of my role as being a ‘Community Servant.’ As a member of the La Crosse County Board, that servanthood would continue. My experiences on both state and community boards brings a unique perspective to the position. As CEO of a large agency, my experiences in balancing a budget, prioritizing funds, collaborations, strategic planning and donor accountability should be an asset to the county.” Jeffrey C. Schroeder (i) Age: 64 Address: 1734 La Fond Ave. Occupation: Retired Burlington Northern Santa Fe engineer Political experience: County Board supervisor for 10 years Personal statement: “I want to represent the people of the 25th District in a fiscally responsible manner. Serve them by voicing their concerns and guide them in the proper direction to the many programs La Crosse County offers.” David Wilder Age: 59 Address: 2406 Lakeshore Drive Occupation: Retired La Crosse branch manager of Guardian Building Products Political experience: La Crosse County supervisor, 1976 to 1978 Personal statement: “I served on the La Crosse County Board of Supervisors from 1976 to 1978. Did not seek re-election due to work and family commitments.
