What we knew: The 2007-09 state budget provided $664,800 in general program revenue for the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse’s Growth, Quality and Access Initiative. Only a portion, $225,400, was allocated for financial aid.

What’s new: The Senate Committee on Higher Eduction held a public hearing Wednesday on a bill that would allow UW-L to use the full $664,000 from the state budget toward the financial aid portion of the plan.
What’s next: The Senate Committee on Higher Education will meet soon, possibly next week, to vote on the bill. If approved, the full senate will vote on it. If OK’d, it will go before the Assembly and then, if approved, onto the governor for final approval.
