Franciscan sisters honored with In My Name award

.
A longtime La Crosse institution and a CEO of an Eau Claire, Wis., hospital will receive the In My Name awards from Catholic Charities of the Diocese of La Crosse at a ceremony today at the Holy Cross Diocesan Center.

The Franciscan Sisters of Perpetual Adoration are being recognized for their work in education, health care and other fields, said Deacon Richard Sage, executive director of Catholic Charities.
But the most important reason they were chosen, he said, is their more than 125 years of perpetual prayer for the community.

“None of the works that we do are possible without prayer and reflection on why we do them,” Sage said. “They’re one of the hidden treasures of La Crosse.”

Sister Paulynn Instenes, vice president of the FSPA, said prayer helps the community of 344 women, who partner with more than 200 lay affiliates, work as individuals for the greater good of humanity.

“Prayer sustains us,” she said. “It gives you the ability to see the face of God.”

This is the second year the awards have been given to those who exemplify Mark 9:41: “Anyone who gives you a cup of water in my name because you belong to Christ will certainly not lose his reward.”

Stephen Ronstrom, CEO of Sacred Heart Hospital in Eau Claire, is the other recipient.

Ronstrom became hospital CEO in 1998, when Sacred Heart faced challenges to its existence.

Ronstrom provided key leadership on the Catholic Charities’ board, Sage said, and has a special compassion for those in need in his community.
