Former cable tech charged with theft

.
Charges were filed Wednesday against a former technician accused of stealing checks from a home while making a cable television service call.

Kyle Koopman, 22, of Sparta, Wis., was charged with forgery and misdemeanor theft
in La Crosse County Circuit Court.

A South Side La Crosse homeowner told authorities Koopman was at her house Feb. 18 to work on her Charter Communications service, according to the criminal complaint.

He was alone near her extra checkbooks, according to the the complaint, and a $110 check to Charter and a $67.48 check to a Sparta gas station were forged from her account.

Koopman later called the woman to apologize for stealing and cashing the checks, according to the complaint.

Charter spokeswoman Anita Lamont said Koopman was not an employee but did work for the business under contract with Broadband Solutions in La Crosse. Broadband officials could not be reached for comment Wednesday.

Koopman was released on a $300 cash bond. His case was continued until Wednesday so he could hire an attorney.

" Charter cable stinks, it keeps locking up and I'm tired of it. If they don't fix it soon, I'm gone. "

" I had one of these "techs" install my cable internet (Charter) and told me my BRAND NEW cable modem was dead. After he left i turned it on (button on top) and everything worked just fine. Along with leaving another modem with me, he also left himself logged into some website that they must use to check certain things. Talk about a top notch employee! I suppose, you get what you pay for. "

" Probably the same guy that snagged a digital receiver from my place when he did an install. Now charter is charging me $300 for it. "

" Dean has hit the nail on the head!!! Employers can not get the background checks that they need when they interview people. This could have been avoided if he had done this in the past and the person doing the hiring would have been forwarned. Some people can look you straight in the eye and lie without even blinking. This could happen in any line of work and most likely has. "

fraud, theft, or deceit when it's goverment run.....Time to put down the crack pipe dean. "
