Holmen finished behind grand champion Jefferson High School of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, which won all four choir section awards. Altoona, Wis., Chamber Choir finished third, and West High School from Waterloo, Iowa, was fifth.
The Grand River show choir competition starts at 9 a.m. today at the La Crosse Center South Exhibit Hall, with Onalaska’s two middle school choirs. The top high school show choirs include Totino Grace’s Company of Singers of Fridley, Minn.; Riverside Company of Hastings, Minn.; and Choralation of Milton, Wis.
Chi-Hi Harmonics of Chippewa Falls, Wis., which took second at last year’s Grand River contest, and North St. Paul are returning to this year’s competition.
Viterbo University’s Platinum Edition will perform in exhibition at 4:30 p.m., and the Grand River Singers, the adult La Crosse show choir hosting the invitational, will perform at 9:30 p.m. after the finals.
