Please consider contacting senators and representatives to urge them to fully fund such programs as the Violence Against Women Act, the Sexual Assault Program, the Victims of Crime Act and the Rape Prevention Education Program.
On the state level, there is a need to contact our representatives, senators and governor to emphasize the importance of funding for the same types of programs.
Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty is proposing $341 million in cuts and more than half of that amount would come from the Department of Health and Human Services.
Within Health and Human Services is the crime victim services amount of $636,000 as a proposed cut. These two agencies provide the majority of the funding for Houston County Women’s Resources and other agencies like it throughout the state of Minnesota.
As our population grows and economic times worsen, emotional, physical and mental health needs grow.
