UW-L baseball team splits with Platteville

The UW-La Crosse baseball team split a pair of games with UW-Platteville on Sunday. The Eagles lost the first game 8-6 but came back to dominate the second game 14-4.

In the first game, UW-L’s Tyler Peterson went 3-for-3 with a home run and 2 RBI.

In the second game, the Eagles won by the 10-run rule in the seventh inning. Greg Gibson went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and Storm Gram was 3-for-3 with three runs, five RBI and a home run.

Viterbo 5, Mount Mercy 3

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — The V-Hawks rallied from a one-run deficit in the top of the ninth by scoring three runs to pick up the win. Mount Mercy committed two errors in the inning.

SOFTBALL

Luther College 5-3, UW-La Crosse 2-2

In the opener, Luther put up three runs in the top of the seventh to break a 2-2 tie. Danielle Armbruster hit a RBI single in the seventh for Luther’s go-ahead run with two outs.

Luther’s seventh inning trumped back-to-back home runs by Liz Bradley and Sarah Pfeifer in the fourth inning.

In the second game, Tami Mager scored the winning run on a UW-L error in the seventh inning.

Viterbo 4-7, Ashford 1-4

The V-Hawks opened up the first game hot, with Jen Pintz and Betsy Ward each doubling and scoring in the first inning.

In the nightcap, Ward hit a three-run walkoff home run in the bottom of the eighth inning to clinch the MCC sweep.
