College roundup: Viterbo baseball tops Iowa Wesleyan

Nick Albrecht allowed just one hit Monday, a one-out single to Travis Seaberg, as the Viterbo University baseball team defeated Iowa Wesleyan 13-1 in a Midwest Collegiate Conference game played at the Viterbo Outdoor Athletic Complex.

Albrecht struck out seven and walked five en route to earning the complete-game victory for the V-Hawks (23-8, 12-3).

Viterbo took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning. J.P. Cloutier had an RBI single, Nick Lenzendorf’s sacrifice fly drove in Kyle Dreger, and Drew Roberts scored on an error.

The V-Hawks took a 9-1 lead by scoring three runs in the fifth.

Cloutier and Lenzendorf, a Prairie du Chien High School graduate, each drove in three runs for Viterbo. Cloutier, Roberts and Howard Heinrich each scored three runs.

Brad Demmin scored what proved to be the winning run on a fielder’s choice in the top of the 11th inning as the Titans swept the Eagles at UW-L’s North Campus Field.

UW-L (12-14, 5-9 WIAC) had tied the game at 5 in the bottom of the ninth. Tyler Peterson singled in Tony Peterson, and Joey Casper scored on a fielder’s choice.

Oshkosh (14-5, 9-3) won the opener when Demmin scored on a wild pitch in the 11th. The Eagles tied the game at 6 in the sixth on Travis Kerr’s sacrifice fly.

UW-Whitewater 6, UW-L 1

Jessica Stang struck out seven and scattered three hits for the Warhawks as they beat the Eagles in the first game of a WIAC doubleheader at UW-L’s North Campus Field.

Whitewater (15-3, 4-0) took a 3-0 lead in the first inning of the second game thanks in part to Meghann Brennfleck’s two-run double. De Soto graduate Kaylyn Von Glahn took the loss for UW-L (16-11, 2-4).
