Elsie A. Bailey
Elsie A. Bailey, 86, of La Crosse died Wednesday, April 16, 2008, at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center, La Crosse.
Elsie was born Feb. 5, 1922, in Reedsburg, Wis., to William and Louise Schrank. On May 16, 1943, she married Joseph Bailey in Reedsburg, and they moved to La Crosse in 1947. Elsie was employed in housekeeping for Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse from 1970 until 1985. On Dec. 2, 2004, Joseph preceded Elsie in death.
Survivors include one daughter, Kathryn Bailey of La Crosse; four sons, William (Joanne) Bailey of La Crescent, Minn., Robert (Elizabeth) Bailey of La Crosse, Harold Bailey of Sparta, Wis., and Douglas (Connie) Bailey of Onalaska, Wis.; one daughter-in-law, Joan Bailey of Phoenix; 12 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one stepgranddaughter; one stepgrandson; and five stepgreat-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, Elsie was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Donald Earl Bailey; one sister; and three brothers.
Funeral services will be Monday, April 21, at 11 a.m. at Wesley United Methodist Church, Eighth and King streets, La Crosse. The Rev. Don Iliff will officiate. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery, La Valle, Wis. Friends may call at the church on Monday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services. Woodruff-Jandt Funeral Home, La Crosse, is in charge of arrangements.

Miriam Elizabeth Coury
HOPKINS, Minn. — Miriam Elizabeth Coury, 56, of Hopkins died Tuesday, April 15, 2008, at her home.
Miriam was born April 23, 1951, to George and Mary Coury in La Crosse. She attended Northern State College in Aberdeen, S.D., and graduated in 1973 with a bachelor of science degree in education. She most recently worked for North Memorial Health Care as an administrative assistant.
Miriam was baptized in the St. Elias Orthodox Church, but also attended Christ Episcopal Church and more recently, Gethsemane Lutheran Church in Hopkins.
Miriam was involved in many activities that helped others and was concerned for those who were less advantaged in life. As a granddaughter of Syrian/Lebanese immigrants in the United States, Miriam had a great love and respect for her heritage.
Miriam is survived by many first cousins and their families, including Richard (Terry) Markos of La Crescent, Minn., Greg (Joyce) Markos of Redlands, Calif., Paul Markos, Regina (Michael) Kilbey, Jane (Bill) Simmons, Salem (Arden) Markos and Charlotte (Gerald) Kann, all of La Crosse, Joan (Thomas) Horejs of Oshkosh, Wis., Connie Coury Watts of Falls Church, Va., Tom Coury of Tampa, Fla., Fred Coury of North Mankato, Minn., Linda Coury of North Mankato, Chuck Stevens of Wichita, Kan., Brenda Coury, (address unknown), Tom Von-Kienast of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, Jeff Von-Kienast of White City, Ore., and Jane Pruitt of Wagoner, Okla. She is also survived by good friends Annette Easterday and Rachel Schwandt, Carolyn Peterson, Karen Peterson and Carolyn Sheldon.
Miriam was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Salem and Miriam Markos, who immigrated to the United States from Arne, Syria, and her paternal grandparents, Charles and Elizabeth Coury, who immigrated from Damascus, Syria, and Beirut, Lebanon. She was also preceded in death by her mother, Mary (Bahia) Coury; her father, George Coury; her brother, Charles Coury; and many aunts and uncles.
Funeral services will be held Monday, April 21, at 11 a.m. in Christ Episcopal Church, 831 Main St., La Crosse. The Rev. Patrick Augustine will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, La Crosse.
Relatives and friends are invited to call on Sunday, April 20, from 2 to 4 p.m. at Dickinson Funeral Home, 1425 Jackson St., La Crosse. The Rev. Father John Chagnon of St. Elias Orthodox Church, La Crosse, will offer prayers at 2:30 p.m.

HOLMEN, Wis. — Jeremy J. Hedrington, 28, of Holmen died Thursday, April 17, 2008, at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center, La Crosse. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Holmen Lutheran Church. Euphrosine Theresa Rybarczyk
ARCADIA, Wis. — Euphrosine T. Rybarczyk, 90, of Arcadia died Wednesday, April 16, 2008, at Franciscan Skemp Healthcare Nursing Home in Arcadia. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Holy Family Parish, Arcadia, with the Rev. Michael Klos officiating. Burial will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Arcadia. Friends may call from 9 to 11 a.m. Monday at the church, where there will be a rosary at 10 a.m. Wozney-Killian Funeral Home of Arcadia is assisting the family.
Margie I. Selbo
STOUGHTON, Wis. — Margie I. Selbo left this earth and joined her Lord on Thursday, April 17, 2008.
Marge was born May 14, 1924, the daughter of Harry and Margaret (Putman) Sween of Holmen, Wis. After graduating from Holmen High School, Marge attend Luther College, where she met Warren Selbo of La Crosse. They married in Holmen in 1944. After World War II, they returned to Luther College, then to Brodhead, Wis., and moved to Stoughton in 1959. Marge embraced the Norwegian heritage, which Stoughton had to offer. Marge was an accomplished bridge player, homemaker and knitter.
For family and friends, Marge knitted Norwegian sweaters that are true works of art. Holidays were also times when Marge showed her skill in preparing many delicious Norwegian foods.
Warren died in 1983. Marge married Joe Ralph in 1989. Together Marge and Joe continued to be very involved in the Stoughton community, and in 2002 received the Stoughton Community Appreciation Award. Marge was a member of Stoughton Village Players, Christ Lutheran Church, Skaalen Home Board and Holmen Auxiliary Legion, and was a supporter of the arts.
Marge is survived by her husband, Joe; four sons, Luther (Tammy), John (Burnie Bridge), Dave (Jean Schnoor), and Paul (Sue); a brother, Kent (Mary) Sween of Onalaska, Wis.; two stepdaughters, Peggy Horne and Jane Ralph; six grandchildren; several stepgrandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A celebration of Marge’s life will be held at Christ Lutheran Church, 700 Hwy. B, Stoughton, on Tuesday, April 22, at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Scott Geister-Jones presiding. A visitation will be held at the church from 9 a.m. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, contributions to Christ Lutheran Church would be appreciated. The family wishes to thank the staff of Unit 5 at Skaalen Home for the care extended to Marge. Marge was a God-fearing, strong, intelligent woman and will be missed by all who knew her. “Be still, and know that I am God.”

Fern Thompson
VIROQUA, Wis. — Fern Thompson, 88, longtime treasurer of Jefferson township, rural Viroqua, passed away Wednesday evening, April 16, 2008, at Vernon Manor Nursing Home in Viroqua surrounded by her family.
She was born Nov. 26, 1919, in the town of Franklin, Vernon County, Wis., to Nicholas and Bernice (Zitzner) Weber. She attended Dach Ridge Rural School and graduated from Viroqua High School in 1938. On Dec. 10, 1938, she married Kenneth Thompson. They farmed in Jefferson township, rural Viroqua, and she also served 39 years at town of Jefferson treasurer, retiring in 1999. She had been very active in 4-H as a leader and a longtime member of the Vernon County Homemakers. She enjoyed fishing and gardening, especially her flowers.
Fern is survived by two daughters, Karen Nelson of Atlanta, Texas, and Bonita (Michael Hofmann) Ankney of Kronenwetter, Wis.; two sons, Karl Thompson of Viroqua and Kermit Thompson of Menomonie, Wis.; 17 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; two sisters, Ruth Erickson and Kathryn Hauge, both of Viroqua; one brother, Clayton Weber of Viroqua; other relatives; and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Kenneth on May 31, 1984;, one son, Alan Thompson on Dec. 2, 2006; one brother, Elwyn Weber; two sisters, Edith St. John and Helen Weber; and three brothers-in-law, Chester Hauge, Max St. John and Douglas Erickson.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, April 21, at Thorson-Reetz Funeral Home in Viroqua, with Pastor Nathan Prong officiating. Burial will be in Viroqua Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Sunday from 5 to 7 p.m. and again after 8 a.m. Monday.
