" Very true Donatello, now without a farm bill (no subsidies) you could argue we are truly in a free market. This is what taxpayers wanted. This is capitolism. China pays 30% of disposable income on food. They will be importing corn later this year. Until oil goes to $60/bbl. and gas $2.00 gal. ethonal is profitable at $5.00/ bu. corn. Want to drop the price of corn and thereby food? Oil based economy. "

" We have a devout religious Christian activist President and VP
Islamic religion is the fastest growing religion and is non-Christian, they are enemies
Islam is, and is becoming the dominant religion of many third world countries including Africa
Third world and mid-east need our agriculture products
We invade a couple Koran Countries
Koran Countries jack up the cost of oil
We institute and re-subsidize a money losing and wasteful use for corn (Ethanol)
The world price for our corn (and other food products) skyrockets
Result...Third world Islamic countries are now desperate for food
We are paying through the nose for oil and all of it's by products.
I have said often that I don't believe in coincidence, and our government rarely acts without some hidden agenda. "

" Anti,
I dont know a single "environmentalist that advocated corn ethanol at all let alone to the degree we have now which screws the food supply completely.
This farce was created by politicians, Monsantos', capitalists that like handouts (eg.Webers) pseudo-environmentalists and corn States to squander taxpayer subsidies and get rich on a sham of a false hope.
I have yet to meet a long haired, tie-dyed, hippie environmentalist (or anything like that)heading and profiting on a ethanol plant. They all consist of connected profiteers, bankers, businessmen and politicians.
Environmentalists have common sense...use weeds, waste, hemp and switchgrass for ethanol!!! No fertilizer, chemicals or environmental cost...Too much common sense and no room for crooked profit grabbers in that plan huh? That's the scum we live with and put in "leadership" positions for ya.
I think this is Macro-economic world and religious warfare myself, I'll post something on it next. "

" With the profits for growing corn to fulfill the ethanal mandates being so high, farmers are abandoning other crops that are healthier for our society. Take a look at the current prices for wheat and flour. Prepare yourself for higher prices for beef, as feed for cattle has increased greatly in the last few years. Even if you don't consume products made from corn, prices for everything else is still going up as a side effect, because more and more of our crop land is being used to grow corn for ethanal.
Looking for alternate energy sources is a worthy goal, but we should be looking at untapped sources. Our food supply should be used for food, not fuel for our vehicles. "

" No way no how can you deny the recent spike in food cost cannot be attributed to the ethanol mandate. Regardles of the nutritional value of many corn products (Yellow Media)... the world needs corn at lower pricing. The already cash starved 3rd world countrys will suffer the greatest. How do you enviromentalists feel now? "

The school lunch programs are too concentrated on the lowest bidders, thus the dangerous food and recalls that we had recently. "
JBK wrote on Apr 22, 2008 12:38 PM:
" Maybe if we weren't converting 20% of our corn crop into ethanol, which lowers the supply and increases the demand for all products which use corn (including feed for dairy cows), food prices wouldn't be increasing so quickly. Keep watching your local, national and global news sources for stories about food prices soaring, causing the poor to be starving across the world because food is no longer affordable.
Using our food supply as an energy source is one of the most poorly thought-out ideas of modern society. "

Our own current Director started at $78k, the previous Director Marilyn made $82k trimmed with bloated expensive benefits. Funny, how almost all government entities cannot approach the correct body with a request for funding any longer and procure the shortages with peripheral imaginative added taxes and reasons. Shameless. Milwaukee County employees are facing a billion dollar shortage for one employee benefit. Milwaukee Technical College campus is facing a $2228 million dollar shortage for one employee benefit. It is as ludicrous as blaming funding shortages on boilers and maintenance needs. "

The sad thing is to see all of the wasted food, because kids are so picky. Parents should raise their kids to eat a bigger variety of food.
All homeowners pay the taxes to keep the schools going, not just "middle class".
Why don't you try packing a lunch for your kids, think you can do it for $2 a day? "
