Activities for April 19, 2008

The 21st annual convention of the La Crosse Area Synod Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America will begin with 8 a.m. registration April 26 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Viroqua, Wis. The theme is “Blessed to be Bold.” The Rev. Christine Hallemeier, the first woman to go to the Central Synod Mekane Yesus in Ethiopia as a teaching pastor, will be the keynote speaker. The Holy Week schedule for St. Elias Orthodox Church, 716 Copeland Ave., is:

  • Today: 10 a.m. Lazarus Saturday Divine Liturgy, 5 p.m. Lazarus Saturday Vespers

  • Sunday: 10 a.m. Palm Sunday Divine Liturgy

  • Wednesday: 7 p.m. Holy Unction Service

  • Thursday: 10 a.m. Holy Thursday Morning Liturgy, 7 p.m. Service of the 12 Passion Gospels

  • Friday: noon Good Friday Great Vespers, 7 p.m. Lamentation Service

  • April 26: 10 a.m. Holy Saturday Vesperal Divine Liturgy, 11:30 p.m. Holy Saturday Midnight Office and Rush Orthos

  • April 27: 2:30 p.m. Pascha Sunday Agape Vespers.

    • An open house of the completed construction of Bethel Lutheran Church in Arcadia, Wis., will be from 1 to 4 p.m. May 4.

    A new, informal worship service with live music will be at 5 p.m. Saturdays beginning April 26 at St. John’s United Church of Christ, 624 West Ave. S. Children are welcome.

    These programs will be at the Franciscan Spirituality Center, 920 Market St.

  • Pray, Walk, Eat will be from 5:30 to 7 p.m. May 9, beginning with prayer at Maria Angelorum Chapel, followed by a walk with prayers of peace from different faith traditions.

    A simple meal will follow.

  • The Spiritual Direction Preparation Program, a three-year program, is taking applications for the program beginning this fall. Contact Sister Mary Kathryn Fogarty at
