Pay attention to the possibility of a landfill in Vernon County (or anywhere) if you care about property values and rights, or lack of open-door policies within a large cooperative or environmental issues or loss of farmland, or disruption of communities, or EPA regulation that causes further harm to the environment.
There are issues to think and talk about whether you are Republican, Democrat, Libertarian, Green, independent or plain old undecided.
It is a myth that those opposing the landfill are “Not in My Back Yard” or wacko activists. They look like plain old Janes and Joes to me. What defines them is they care and are willing to do something about it. Some live near the three proposed ash pit sites, some do not. So everyone has a choice — do or say something or become an ostrich.
But when you stick your head in the sand you may find out that it’s really a big old
pile of stinking ash when you come back up to take a look around.
