Poll: State residents not worried about global warming

.
MADISON — A new poll shows only 18 percent of Wisconsin residents believe climate change is extremely problematic in the state.

Survey respondents were most concerned about declining water levels in Wisconsin rivers, lakes and ground water. Twenty-one percent say that is extremely problematic.
Sixty-six percent say they believe the natural environment in Wisconsin is excellent or good. And 48 percent say state government is doing extremely well or quite well in protecting the environment.

The University of Wisconsin Survey Center's Badger Poll was conducted between April 15-24. The random sample survey of 521 people has a margin of error of plus or minus 4 percentage points.

" Was the question, "Which of the following are you most concerned about?"? For WI, global warming isn't a big problem- we'll see more rain, exotic diseases, and invasive species, but overall we'll get off easy. The rest of the world, not so much... "

" RE: Darwin

Seriously already - lay off the "SUV" drivers. I don't see anyone complaining about the minivans getting the same gas mileage hauling six kids back and forth all day long. "

" Blogger,
One thing before I begin, blinders on horses keep them focused and keeps them from being distracted by nonsense going on around them. In other words, blinders are a good thing to keep you working in the right direction.
Now, Al Gore is the media savior for this supposed crisis call global warming. If you didn't realize that, you've been asleep. You really should visit this site (http://www.familysecuritymatters.org/global.php?id=1387375#) and see the more up to date data. It's much better then some peoples feelings that the springs have disappeared and the winters are less proves global warming.
Oh, just because Bush appointed them doesn't mean they aren't politically driven. Bush tests the political winds as much as any other politician. If the media and masses want global warming concern, then by golly government will deliver. "

" I've only got one question for the GLOBAL WARMING crowd:

How many consecutive winters like this last one will it take before you start whining about GLOBAL COOLING??? "

" In any event there have been too many other organizations that agree with the EPA, including :the American Meteorological Society, the American Geophysical Union, and the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) all have issued statements in recent years concluding that the evidence for human modification of climate is compelling (Science Dec 2004) - for it to be "scare tactics" or for the benefit of Gore. Not that I think you would agree with any of THEM either. "

blogger wrote on May 1, 2008 4:03 PM:

" Phil O (any relation to Bill O?) - try to take off the blinders for a while. The head of the EPA is appointed by the president and is responsible to him (in this case Bush, not Gore). The entire agency is responsible to the president. You seem to have your mind fixated on Gore. I doubt that anyone in this administration puts out statements in order to further Gores financial bottom line, and EPA has no mandate to tax. "

the last ten years, the almost
non- existent spring season, and
global warming, then you've got

on that, then post your inanity
on this rags web site. "

" My god people. Havent we done more than our share to be planet friendly? The Usa recycles more, our powerplant technology is the best on the planted(coal and gas fired)Our cars and trucks have become crazy efficient as far as pollutants, Industry has cleaned up drastically and we americans pay for it. Nobody want to say anything about the Chinese, Indias, and many other far and mid eastern countries. If in fact there is a GW issue(not sure myself) put the blame where its due? "

mk wrote on May 1, 2008 2:32 PM:

" I for one believe humans have little if any impact on global warming, that however does not mean I'm against reducing, reusing, and recycling. It drives me nuts for instance when I see litter on our roadways. Americans need to learn how to embrace these philosophies especially if we want to see significant changes to our gas and food prices. "

mk wrote on May 1, 2008 2:29 PM:

" The sky is falling, the sky is falling! At least thats what liberal "green heads" want us to believe. Sorry I don't have time to worry about global warming because its something we CAN"T alter. Even if global warming is the result of human activity how are our actions going to do anything beneficial when billions of people in Asia (i.e. China, India, Japan) continue to consume more and more of the world's oil. It's like trying to put a band-aid on a gaping wound. "

" Global Warming will go down as one of the World's largest Scams! Al Gore and others have made millions with this scam. It's to bad 18% of the citizens have fallen for it. "

Phil O'Bates wrote on May 1, 2008 2:18 PM:

" Huh...the EPA keeping to a politically correct belief. Who would of thunk it? Gore-bull warming dogma generates increased taxes. The EPA increases taxes on power companies to comply to Gore-bull warming fears. Power companies spend more money on expensive clean air scrubbers and the like. Electicity prices go up to cover costs and inherent unreliability in things such as wind and solar energy. This is just one small example. People should also investigate Gore's inconvenient profit (http://wizbangblog.com/content/2007/03/03/al-gore-inconvenient-profit.php) "

blogger wrote on May 1, 2008 1:31 PM:

" 18 percent of Wisconsin residents believe climate change is extremely problematic in the state -> that doesnt mean they dont believe that climate change isnt real or a problem. Phil O thinks this is all propaganda, so maybe we should educate the EPA. Their website says "Scientists know with virtual certainty that: Human activities are changing the composition of Earth's atmosphere. Increasing greenhouse gas concentrations tend to warm the planet ... etc etc. Did Al Gore write that? "

acj wrote on May 1, 2008 1:21 PM:

" it's heartening to find out wisconsin residents will not fall for gore-bull. we should however be terrified of what bush and cheney have done to this country. so they can line thier coffers, we the people have to give up a lot of our rights and all of our money to pay for gas and everyday needs. how did they ever get this far? when will we stand up and say enough? "

jenisgone wrote on May 1, 2008 1:02 PM:

" I agree with Darwin on this one. The climate issues we are experiencing may be caused by a natural cycle of the earth, but why take that chance? We should be trying to impact the earth as little as we can just because it's the right thing to do for future generations. "

" The only way many people will change their habits is if it benefits them financially (and immediately). You can't show them a picture of dying polar bears and expect them to give a rip. A revolting statement, but true. And surprisingly, gasoline at $3.59 is not enough to get the steady stream of SUV drivers to carpool. It'll be interesting to see how expensive gas gets before we change our habits.
People, in general, will do what is easiest - not what is rational. I'm not endorsing any global climate change claims, but is it rational to overload landfills with plastic bags and diapers, or truck heavy paper bags around the country when it's easy to use cloth bags? I'm just sayin'. "

" Gore-bull warming is mainly a political scare tactic. It's encourageing to see that the majority of people in Wisconsin see through the Gore-bull. Their beliefs are backed by 19,000 scientists who have signed a petition saying "There is no convincing scientific evidence that human release of carbon dioxide, methane, or other greenhouse gases, is causing or will, in the foreseeable future, cause catastrophic heating of the Earth's atmosphere and disruption of Earth's climate. Morever, there is substantial scientific evidence that increases in atmospheric carbon dioxide [will] produce many beneficial effects upon the natural plant and animal environments of the Earth." kbg23 wrote on May 1, 2008 11:56 AM:

" Nobody is concerned because there isn't enough proof to cause concern. Historically, the Earth has seen many climate changes and changes in climate patterns. There are studies indicating that this does and does not exist. Until there is conclusive evidence, I am not concerned nor do I believe the hype. (not to say that I would not change my mind in the future given more information.) "

Lee wrote on May 1, 2008 11:49 AM:

" This is upsetting! Only 18%? The article says the margin of error is only 4% but I can't believe that more people aren't scared to death over global warming-the effects of which will be devastating to everyone. Unreal. "
